Copy the Thought Process, Don’t Copy the Content!

Steal like an artist, steal like a pro

Oh yes, copying is in our genes.

Before you were born, you copied your parent’s chromosomes. And now you are copying in the real world.

I think we are born with this art :D

Please don’t get offended, but nothing is 100% new. Either it’s the replica or modification of someone else’s work.

Well, I didn’t say it, “Austin Kleon,” said it. (In case you want to complain. I just told you where to go to.)

But why it gets famous when it is copied?

Imagine: There are two authors…

Ross and Monica.

When Ross publishes the story, none appreciates.

But when Monica published the same story with modification…Viola! She got the attention.

Ask why?

It is because the first time, the message didn’t get through. The audience wasn’t ready for it. Or maybe Ross’s writing was boring.

But Monica got the victory due to her smartness, conveying the message perfectly, and knowing when is the right time to convey it.

My fellow writers, please don’t be tempted to copy after reading it. I want you to copy the thought process, not the content itself.

Let me share some tips that’ll help you copy the thought process.

1) Avoid Repetition!

When you like someone’s work, don’t paraphrase it.

Think like that writer. Think about what they must be thinking while writing it.

Give your brain some more push and gel it well with your story.

Who likes reading the same thing again and again?

The audience will get bored of it.

So, always think out of the box while writing on a similar topic. I mean, don’t copy another article idea word by word…give your own twist to make it unique. You are here to copy the thought process, not the content.

2) Get lost in the stack of books

Every Saturday, I get lost in the stack of books…

Ah! I’m nowhere to be found. Saturday, I go on a date with my books :))

Reading books not only helps you in improving your writing skills but also makes you a better thinker. You tend to get inspired by different writers and learn new things from them.

You don’t have to be an expert on the subject, but at least know about it before writing on it. This will give you an edge over others.

If you are a newbie, then there is nothing to worry about. Read but don’t imitate!

Imitation makes everything look real…But it’s not the way of writing content that I’m talking about here.

It leads to plagiarism, and your article will get banned on many platforms, which hurts our online presence badly.

3) Get your creativity juice

This is the most important step.

Don’t copy another person’s content and get away with it. Think, what message do you want to convey to your audience through that topic?

What can we do differently to make our article more appealing?

How will we describe something new using old words, or how would we make the old words sound new?

These are some questions that you need to ask yourself before writing on a topic.

This is your content, and no one can snatch it away from you (unless you get caught). So, be creative, experiment with different things, and make your work look unique.

4) Join Webinars

Steal like a pro from Webinars!

This is a good way to steal the thought process from industry experts.

You can even ask them questions and clear your doubts if any.

It’s free of cost, and you’ll get an opportunity to meet new people while learning something useful!

So what are you waiting for? Go ahead…join the webinar that you like :)

Partying thoughts!

I can proudly say that I stole Austin’s thought process to shape up this blog.

But oh well…just like he says, “Steal like an artist,” I’ll keep doing it.

I’d love to hear your thoughts about it in the comments below.
