Coping With Community

a poem and a piece of gratitude

it’s been a hard journey to lean into the support of a community.

for one, this healing journey relies on other people having enough in their cup to share with me as well,

and for me to grow enough such that if someone else sets a boundary on their energy that I also do not fall apart.

yet I commit to not becoming the person who is so hyperindependent that they set out to resolve everything alone, never truly trusting that another can be there, that “another” can be plural, love spread across the community.

I must still work on accepting rejection in a way that doesn’t feel hopeless, or like the end of the world.

Yet I continue to believe in the power of community.

Hi, I’m Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) and today’s poem is inspired by a tweet from a while back. I’d shared the following tweet “having a bit of a rough patch and slowly trying to find new ways to cope”, just needing a bit of a vent, and received overwhelming support. For that, thank you so much. Thank you for building into the community and supporting me and helping me believe in the power of community again. ♥
