Top 6 Reasons to Let Your Dog Sleep on the Bed With You

Dear canine friends and humans who love them, I wouldn’t have believed it, but there it was, on Pinterest for Dogs, the best advice ever...

Told from the dog’s point of view

Cooper: when I hear someone ask, I wonder who’s been watching cat videos on my computer? I pretend I’m sleeping; they’ll blame the cats.

But let me tell you what I found on Pinterest for Dogs last week. Now I browse there when I get tired of cat videos.

But first I had to scroll past these features:

Laziest dog breeds

I admit I laughed out loud when I saw this headline. I mean, what dog fesses up about being lazy?

I wasn’t shocked to see Newfie dogs on the top ten, but don’t get me wrong. One of my favorite pals at the dog park is a Newfie named Harvey.

That guy is so mellow, I brought over an orange frisbee I found lying around thinking he’d at least do a tug-o-war with me — he just yawned.

Then there was this:

Vacuum dog groomer

What? I thought! On a column for dogs? No joke — a vacuum disguised as a dog brush. Who thinks of these things?

I had to take a closer look at this one:

Dog chews

Sure, I wasn’t surprised to find dog chews on a dog column, but these ones? They claimed the chews would last more than 10 minutes.

I don’t know any enjoyable activity for dogs, or people for that matter, that will last more than 10 minutes! If you know what I mean.

They have not seen my jaws. I should do quality control on this product, I’ll have them thinking long and hard to find a chew toy that lasts me five minutes never mind ten.

I’ll place this picture here simply because it’s so cute…

So here’s the story I wanted to tell you about… I gave it five shining stars.

Top 6 reasons to let your dog sleep in your bed

Dogs offer comfort

Of course, we do! We also add some weight to all those fluffy blankets and pillows.

FYI, there’s an actual job for dogs called Comfort Dog. These dogs spend time with people who are upset for example, they’re in the hospital with a bad review of their health. Or maybe they are waiting in court to appear on the stand. It’s a serious job and I’m proud of my canine buddies who do this.

Back to reasons to share your bed…

Dogs are warm in winter

No kidding! Have you spent five minutes in a Canadian blizzard?

If so I shouldn’t have to explain. If not, you’re probably in a warmer location, and my advice is don’t travel to Canada in winter.

I heard Pat say the other day, One thing I like about winter is Cooper will keep my feet warm all night.

I’m not on the bed much in summer, being the giant heater that I am.

Dogs help combat insomnia

It’s true that humans who suffer from insomnia will fall asleep better with their loyal dog next to them. You’ll drift off to the sounds of our rhythmic breathing and snoring, provided it’s not too loud.

I have to admit, I’ve been jostled a few times due to loud snoring, and the best part — it’s not always me who’s snoring. But I’d be smart not to comment further on that.

Dogs are stress relievers

No surprise there. With our optimistic outlook, who could feel stressed for long?

Dogs listen, no interruptions, we’ll lick your face, bring you your shoes, and take you for walks in the fresh air. Who could remain stressed with a dog taking care of you like that?

Dogs make you feel safe

A no-brainer, and you don’t need to be a 90 lb. force of nature like me.

The smallest dogs are known to strike fear into the hearts of evildoers. I mean, what evildoer would want to face off with a chihuahua?

Have you seen their teeth? And not only their teeth, they’ll berate a bad guy right off the property and down the street. He won’t be back.

It’s good for the dog too!

Of course, sleeping next to you on your bed is good for dogs. If our human is happy we’re happy and we’ll do whatever we can to keep you happy. We’re just that loving.

To sum it up

I heard them discuss putting a twin bed next to the big one so they wouldn’t have to share with a dog and two cats.

I can get behind that idea, the two of them will fit nicely on the twin bed leaving the big bed for me and the cats.
