Cooking Food With All the Family

Mexican dishes to the table!

Do you have any dish in which all your family comes together and makes it from scratch? Many people say that food can bring people together and cooking is the perfect binding moment for me.

In my family, we do all sorts of dishes but the one I love the most is making tamales. Ever heard of it? It’s a traditional dish in which you have salted dough with various fillings. It can be from salsa, mole, chicken, beef, or even jam! The types are endless but the ones we also like to do have cheese and spinach inside of them. With this, it becomes the perfect side dish to Mole Verde or Mole Rojo.

Oh, and we like to make about 50+ tamales in one go. That’s why everyone takes part in the making. I am certain that for a party, we did over one hundred of them. If you would like to make some in the future, here is a good website. As a side note, I read in some other articles that they are made for Christmas, well yes and no. We have them all year round! You can literally see vendors who sell them every night!

The reason that I like making them is that yes, they are super easy to make but everyone gathers around not only the kitchen table, oh no, the assembly line is far too big so we also go to the dining table. As we need a ginormous steamer, we prefer to put it on an outside grill. So as some prepare the coal, others prepare the dough, filling, and then we all assemble these Mexican wonders.

Everyone can have plenty of activities in their everyday life but when we make tamales, we all come together. Therefore this is one of my favorite food memories. Not to mention that tamales are one of my favorite meals. 😆
