Convert Your Boring Medium Stories to Interesting
I Didn’t Know I Was Boring My Readers
Medium is a vibrant platform, but that also means readers have no shortage of options these days.
Getting audience attention — and keeping it — is tougher than ever.
Which is faced by many writers…including me
However, many writers make preventable mistakes that disengage their audiences.
In this post, I’ll highlight the common pitfalls that make readers bounce to another story.
I’ll also share actionable tips to avoid those perennial engagement killers and craft compulsively readable content instead.
Ask What Readers Want
I used to write articles without asking readers what topics interested them.
Big mistake! 😫
Now I actively collect reader feedback by using claps and responses.

This shows I value their opinions.
Readers feel heard.
And I create content that truly resonates.
Use Simple Language
Early on, I stuffed articles with complex industry terms — trying to seem smart and “in the know.”
But this backfired….
Many readers got frustrated and left.
Now I explain things clearly using simple words. Technical stuff gets translated into plain language that everyone grasps.
No assumptions about reader knowledge. This keeps all folks engaged!
Structure Content Thoughtfully
Another issue was my haphazard article structure — no headers, dense paragraphs.
Stream of consciousness writing.
Exhausting! Now I carefully organize content into bite-sized sections with descriptive titles.
Lots of white space and bullet points make it easy to follow. Providing an overview up front signals what’s coming.
This improved structure keeps readers locked in.
The Turnaround
Choosing to write with the reader in mind changed everything!!!
No more fumbling in the dark for topics.
Responding to feedback nurtured loyalty.
Plain writing makes concepts accessible. Thoughtful structure holds attention.
Readership and website traffic are way up thanks to lessons learned. If I can win back readers, you can too!
The key is crafting an experience centered around their needs.
Do that and they’ll reward you with eager attention!
If you found this helpful 50 claps on this will be fuel for my next writing.
