Why You Can Have Conversations with Cats

And what not to do when having dialogues with humans

You think it’s ridiculous, don’t you? If you don’t have a pet, it’s a normal reaction.

But if you live one or two, it’ll sound familiar to you.

Meow’ — only four letters with one syllable, yet the list of meanings seems endless. From “Hello, good morning” to “Feed me, I’m hungry”, at any moment it can turn into “I want cuddles”.

It’s cute, isn’t it? Understanding every meow makes it weird but special.

You treasure this unique world shared with your mini-cougars. Because no one else understands the conversations, except you and them

Besides, it’s fun to insert a bit of fantasy into your reality.

Nevertheless, it’s true. Cats only meow to humans. Studies proved that, and we learned they mean anything related to their basic needs.

That’s how I understand conversations with my cats. I base my understanding of the facts revealed through studies.

We converse, yes. And it’s a conversation where all assumptions are my responsibility. It works well with my cats.

Often, we make that mistake with humans. Dialogues where we assume we know everything without any proof at all.

Exchanges that leave us feeling the whole weight of the world on our shoulders.

Have you experienced that? Perhaps you did.

I often felt it too. And I still do sometimes.

They mostly happen in deep conversations.

Not when you ask about how the weather is. If it’s raining outside and you assume it to be sunny, then that’s another thing.

It’s during those moments with people close to your heart. It happens when emotions are high.

And when emotions are too high, they cloud over your mind.

We assume. We get hurt. We leave the conversation, and often, it stops there.

Nothing follows. No questions asked. Only assumptions.

The problem with making assumptions is we think they’re right — when often they’re wrong.

We make inaccurate, present assumptions based on past experiences.

It’s a toxic cycle. Who gets hurt? Both sides.

I’m not immune to this. And neither are you.

We’re humans, and it’s part of our imperfections.

There’s beauty in imperfection, but this isn’t part of that beauty.

Do you know what’s beautiful? To be able to navigate through it.

Assumption-free life? That’s tough. You’re human, not a fantasy book character.

But you can do something about it.

Take a step back, and examine the situation. Ask questions.

There’s nothing wrong with asking if the goal is transparency.

A former colleague once told me this:

“Don’t assume. Take a look at it, or you’ll make an ‘a**’ out of ‘u’ and ‘me’.”

It sounds funny but realistic. I still think of it when I find myself assuming things. Why don’t you try it?

Assumptions in conversations work for pets, but it’s a fact that it can’t work for humans.

Your human may be cute, but they deserve explanations, not assumptions.
