As someone who likes to research and wait before giving my opinion, this topic makes me angry. I wasn’t going to talk about the Will Smith and Chris Rock drama anymore, but I’m tired of people being misinformed and spewing out a false narrative. Everyone is coming out of the woods to say that Jada “exposed” her infidelities. In my honest opinion, Jada Pinkett has some narcissistic qualities.

I’ve watched enough Red Table Talks in its entirety to get a feel of who she is and what she stands for, but I am a person who won’t hold my thoughts and feelings towards someone hostage. Especially when looking at the facts, if you’ve never heard of August Alsina, my advice would be to Google him. My only goal is to provide a timeline so you can have all your ducks in a row when you want to debate your family at Sunday dinner. March 28, 2019 August Alsina released a song called “Nunya,” and the public insinuated that the song was about a Jada because her middle name is Koren, and he used a meme with Jada as the song’s subject. “You’re just an actress putting on a show” was a line in a song that had the public putting two and two together, assuming that August and Jada had a thing. August, at one point, hung around the Smith family often as if he was a part of the family. That song currently has 5.9M views on YouTube. June 30, 2020 While promoting August Alsina’s album, he sat down with the radio host hall of Famer Angela Yee, who also co-hosts The Breakfast Club. The hour interview discussed a plethora of things. His health because he suffers from an autoimmune disorder, taking care of his late brothers’ nieces, his album, love, and relationships.

He used that opportunity to explain his relationship with Jada. He could’ve easily said “no comment,” but he used his chance to tell his side of the story. Many people on the internet talked bad about August for talking about a “private matter” and that he should’ve kept his mouth closed. I’m not here to tell anyone what they should and should not say, and I think if anyone respects the art of writing, we tend to tell our personal stories in written form. Protecting my right as a writer, I won’t tell someone when, where, and how they should tell their story. July 10, 2020 Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith decided to do some damage control and talk about the incident that August spoke about a month early. Jada did not initiate the relationship she had with August. August Alsina spoke about the issue first. At the time, statements were floating around, allegedly responding to the interview August did and during that Red Table Talk that was their first and last statement on the matter.

During that interview, she stated that the relationship with August was an “entanglement’ and not romantic. That word then started a new wave of memes, and in many ways, that backfired. She danced around the topic to be politically correct as possible. In my opinion, she wasn’t sincere. I felt like she was tying a nice bow on a bleeding wound. September 17, 2020 August Alsina decided to use the word entanglement and write a song featuring Miami rapper Rick Ross. That video currently has 4.5M views on YouTube. In the book Will, Will Smith discusses a low point within their marriage and that they were on the verge of divorce. Will and Jada have been facing divorce for some time; he didn’t get into any dates, times, and locations. People over the age of twenty-five still allow the internet to dictate how you should think and force you to pick aside. I find it confusing how the public can easily be manipulated or jump on the bandwagon for falsehood because that’s what the majority says.

I make it my responsibility to research, listen to all sides of the story, read and read again then form an opinion. The lashing that Jada receives is unfair, and people should be ashamed. To go out and only tell the most exciting parts of the story without wanting to know the beginning and the middle is ignorant. Throughout this whole debacle, I’ve learned two essential lessons 1. Nobody wants to hear the truth if the lie is more entertaining. I can’t source the person who said this quote first, but it’s true. We see it throughout the justice system. 2. I don’t particularly appreciate arguing with fools because onlookers wouldn’t know the difference. I tend to pick and choose my battles. Men are so upset with Jada as if she’s married to them.

Some men are also calling Will a punk, but I think the real punks are those who sit up all day and type and make videos about the subject. We all can be using our time wisely than dissecting the issue. Don’t be afraid to use this as your footnotes on your next debate about another married couple.
