Contemplations and Ruminations

A New Home for the Homeless Voice

I am happy to introduce a new publication designed for the new writer. These are contemplations and journeys in the writing experience distinctly for the writer who is experimenting.

Humans all have stories to tell.

Although first written words were all about tracking economic trade transactions, story telling in the oral tradition quickly thereafter found a home in codified symbols. How we use symbols in a way that either complicates or simplifies our lives continues to be great substance for discussion. We do that here.

Writing as a way of expression is a relatively new phenomenon for humans, in the grand scheme of things. So we are all learning as we go.

As your editor in chief, I will maintain a traditional editor’s role. That is, I will be tough on things like grammar, punctuation and usage. We have a team of volunteer editors here to assist as well.

Contemplate requires the following (look here if you need help with this):

  • Title (using “Big T” in editor) in title case
  • Subtitle (using “Little T” in editor) in sentence case
  • Kicker (any case)
  • Featured image following the subtitle

Examine your pieces before submitting them. Revise them, correct them, love them. If you do not, we will give you tips. Nothing will be published here until the reader can read it without mentally stumbling over your writing. Therefore, have patience if your work is not immediately published.

Other than that, all topics and forms are welcome.

If you publish in a language other than English, that’s okay, but include an English translation. Same rules apply for the English translation.

If you would like to write and be published here, make a comment on this article. You will be added as a writer.

PLEASE THEN NOTE: We have writing standards that follow the same formatting we use across all of our publications, and are featured on the front page of the flagship publication, MuddyUm. Please review these standards below. Mastering these standards will make you a better writer, give you better exposure to audiences, and delight your editors, who already work very hard as volunteers on your behalf.

Tag your pieces as you wish. Behind the paywall or not — your choice. If you would like your writings to appear behind the tabs on our main page, be sure one of the tags are appropriate for the algorithms to find it — poetry, essay, humor or stories (for fiction). In the Spoken Word category, use the tag Music to be included in the featured page. If you write in a category that does not fall into any of these tabs, let me know either by private message or by comments, and I will consider adding that tab.

Thank you for sharing your contemplations.

Let your adventure begin.

Editor in Chief,

Susan B.

P.S. If you would like to be part of a Facebook group that is supportive of writers on Contemplate, once you have confirmation that you are a writer, look me up on FB and friend me. I’ll add you to the FB group. It’s called Medium Contemplations.

And if you are a woman and would appreciate being a part of our “Mother Ship,” the Garden of Neuro Institute, send me a private message at [email protected] and I’ll send you a personal invitation to the women’s network that governs and nourishes all my Medium publications.

Come join in on the fun with five publications in our family you can write for.

JOIN OUR WRITING COMMUNITY

Contemplate is part of a community of writers. To be kept informed about activities, contests, anthologies, retreats and more — you can sign up to be the first to know here. You don’t need to be a humor writer to join the community.

“Writing and sharing is a foundational element in connecting one person at a time, each to another, in a web that forms unbreakable bonds of community. Each time we post a story, we open a window to our soul, and through that window, people come to learn about us, yes, but more importantly, they find in these stories the reflection of their own humanity. Our stories serve to enlighten, inspire, and find the common ground of understanding we so desperately need in these times of multi-force and multi-faceted human designed divisive systems for information dissemination. On a platform like Medium, we find like minds, but we also find the new and novel ideas that we had not thought of before, that expand our frames of reference. This is why I created multiple publications, to attract a full diversity of voices. Voice is developed on many paths. Whether it’s poetry, essay, science or comedy, each voice is a facet on the buckyball of humanity.” — Susan Brearley
