Power Of Solitude

Contemplating Silence: The Power of Solitude in a Man’s Reflections

How often do you sit to think?

I have been doing quite a bit of that lately.

I embrace solitude when in deep thought. It’s the only way I can really navigate away from all distractions. Given that I live alone, this is quite easy for me.

“Silence is full of voices.” — Anne Morrow Lindbergh

So what to think about? I have been thinking about my end. Not to be morbid, but it is what it.

Everything that goes up must come down. Everything that begins must end. Nothing lasts forever. Except — maybe — what you leave behind. Other people determine this for you, though.

“Everything that has a beginning, has an end. — Oracle, The Matrix Revolutions

So how do you make people feel? What do they think about you? What do they say about you when you are not around? What do you leave behind for your descendants?

While I don’t necessarily care what people think about me, I do care how I impact there lives. You see, I write to leave something behind for someone. I intend to provide value to you and others. That’s what I care about.

So what have I been thinking? I have been wondering how much value, if any, I have been providing people. This includes my family. My wife, sons, mother, father, etc. But particularly the former two.

The most important people in my life is my wife and sons. So I do care how I impact there lives. Is this what men often think about? The constant beating of “am I good enough?”… “am I doing enough for them?”…

The answer: who knows. My wife would say: “yeah…” while shrugging her shoulders. My sons will say: “you good, dad 👍🏼” without giving it a second thought.

While this may be good enough for them, it’s not good enough for me. So I keep pushing until my job is done. And my job is done when I stop breathing.

That’s my message to you. If you are a father, husband, man… you have to keep going. There’s no backup. No one is coming to save you. You only matter when you provide. That’s the natural order of things.

No one cares if you are trying. You must have results. If not, no one cares. Work harder.

Again, this is the natural order of things. And we no longer have men that teach this to other men. Or rather there’s a small group of men that do.

To my fellow men, keep going. You cannot give up. Your purpose is to live to die another day. Don’t waste time it. Make use of your time. Create the best version of yourself.

“The purpose of man is to live, not to exist.” — Jack London

This takes time, by the way. I have underestimated the amount of time and effort it takes. Don’t make the same mistake. Yes, you could grasp it right away. Or you may struggle with it, like me.

Stay strong and keep moving forward.
