We Can’t Give A Part-Time Effort, And Expect A Full-Time Result

Everything in life, including life itself, involves a process. The process of every situation will vary but all the components to be successful, will always remain the same. The components of being successful are thought, a plan, belief, work ethic, a great attitude, and consistency. Though consistency is last in the order of things, it’s first in importance. Consistency governs everything because, without consistency, we won’t reach our goal, nor will we exceed it once we have. Below is a step by step account of the process that would lead me to be a writer.

Thought

After reading religiously for many years I had the thought that I wanted to be a writer. My primary motivation was the ability authors had to captivate my attention, for hours on end. The fact that I was able to read 450-page books in three days fascinated me, so much so that I want to possess such an appealing capability. After every book I read, the thought of being a writer grew stronger and stronger. So, I finally allowed the thought to overtake my mind. Now, I had to come up with a plan to make my thought a reality.

A Plan

Every process should involve a plan, without a plan, what we desire will remain just a wish. Unfortunately, all plans aren’t meant to produce the desired result but this doesn’t mean we give up on the goal, we just need to come up with a new plan. The first part of my plan to become a writer with an appealing capability was to re-familiarize myself with the dictionary, seeing that words would be responsible for what’s written. But though words are responsible for what’s written, it’s the meaning of words that will determine the reaction to what’s written. It’s all about combining the right words, to produce the desired result. So, it wasn’t so much the words, but the meanings of them that I studied diligently. Every day I dedicated five hours to studying the meanings of words, this went on without failure, for about a year and a half.

The second half of my plan to become a writer with an appealing capability was to create a means to write, one that would always produce the desired result over and over again. So, I began to think of what we humans all have most in common. After a few months of drawing numerous conclusions, I decided to go with a need to “feel good.” We as humans are drawn to people, places, and things that make us feel good. So, I decided to write pieces designed to bring about good vibes.

Belief

I began writing poetry and rap verses, and both generated a nice amount of attention from family and friends. But I wasn’t just trying to attract the attention of family and friends, in fact, I wanted the entire world to read my words. So, I ventured off into the realm of Facebook. This virtual world was where you’d either feel welcomed or feel like an outsider, so because of the latter, I didn’t share my work right off. I went around making my presence felt by acknowledging other people, I was giving them a taste of how I wrote via my comments. on their efforts.

Two months after my arrival on Facebook, I created a group I called, “The Daily Dose,” which was where you could go to receive a shot of inspiration every a.m. I still wasn’t comfortable enough to share my own work, so I shared the work of others via quotes from Google. Before I knew what happened, Daily Dose went from ten people to over five hundred. People where coming to get inspired, as well as to inspire with their own Google quotes. One day I decided to share an original quote, and it was well-received. So, for the next five years, I would post my own original inspirational quotes, never realizing that said quotes would make up the first chapter of my first self-published book, Positive Energy 24/7.

Five years later, 2018, and shortly after a friend asked me had I ever thought about writing a motivational book, I begin to write Positive Energy 24/7. At the time I was transferring the rough draft version of my second book, It Was Destine…Urban Legend, into a desktop computer. I had five of the ten chapters transferred but then one a.m. I lost the feeling to finish what I started, and it was replaced with a feeling of starting something anew.

I went back and collected all my original quotes from Daily Dose, and made them the first chapter of Positive Energy 24/7. The rest of the book in question, including the title, was all due to divine intervention. I was just the vessel being used to bring forth something greater than my desire, but that would eventually have me realize my purpose. For the most part, Positive Energy 24/7 is a collection of personal experiences that help me to understand how to be better, by doing better. Without question, God’s fingerprints are all over this work because it’s what He wanted, I have no doubt about this.

Once I held a completed copy of Positive Energy 24/7 in my hand the feeling I had for It Was Destine…Urban Legend came back, and, I discovered that writing is my purpose. Because of my first book, I changed the concept of my second book, and this was also when my encouragement, enlightenment, and entertainment manner of writing was born.

Work Ethic

Since the completion of It Was Destine…Urban Legend in early 2019, I’ve literally been writing non-stop. Like it’s was during the creation of my two books, I wake up at 4 a.m. every day and after I take care of other personal matters, I’m writing. In addition to posting on Medium and Instagram, I’m also putting the finishing touches on my third book, The Gumbo: Food For Thought. On Instagram, I’m a part of a beautiful writing community, where it’s nothing but mutual love and respect. I’ve been involved in countless collaborations, overseen several writing exercises, and just inspire while being inspired. Since 2001, and up to the present time, I have written something every day. For me, writing isn’t a job, but a joy. I would write even if I didn’t earn a penny for doing so because love, will always be enough.

Great Attitude

Though my writing has been deemed inspiring by a number of people if it was for my positive attitude, it more than likely wouldn’t be enough to keep me relevant in the hearts and minds of the people. The way I write is also the way I interact with people, face to face. I’m all about the good vibes because it’s already enough negativity going around, no doubt.

On Instagram, I have established bonds with countless individuals, and not just with writers. People reach out to me for advice on all aspects of life, and I always reach back with my perspective. Though my writing initiated our connections, it’s my willingness to assist that ensures we remain connected. And the beautiful part about this is that I’ve never met any of these individuals face to face, but we have face-timed, as well as talked on the phone. The power of the written word is powerful indeed. I’m so glad that I can call myself a creative writer, and mean what I say.

Consistency

None of what you just read would have been possible if it wasn’t for consistency. For me, consistency is an overall non-stop effort, until the goal is accomplished. If just one thing, at any given moment, isn’t aligned with the agenda, there will be no success. We must remain committedly consistent, to being committedly consistent or our dreams will remain just wishes.

Thank you for reading my words, I hope they assist you in a positive way.

Happy reading, writing, and mingling.
