Conjure up That Special Place That Brings You Joy

A Poem on how to find your perfect gateway and license to be

Photo by Faye Cornish on Unsplash

Arms flailing, grabbing, failing

Falling, tumbling you into an abyss

Legs wobbly, looking for purchase

Gravity, it is amiss

Endless thoughts, anxiety-provoking

Preoccupations stealing into your joys

Joys, there are many; they’re worth evoking

They’ll stop the spiraling, help you grab into the bliss

Negativity is retched, darn false thought-provoking

Conjure up that special place to counter the abyss

Visualize gravity righted

Imagine currents tugging gently at legs less encumbered

Fancy your legs wading rhythmically in a babbling brook

Kicking tensions, deriving joy and pleasure at whim

With little effort gravity with you in accord is

Arms flutter, more relaxed, in soft calming motions

No longer prey to the previous abyss

Anxiety drifts off, you are whole in the moment

Your perfect gateway and license to be.

In moments of great anxiety and enfeebling grief, Times when you feel you’re falling — but falling in inconceivable ways, Conjure up that special place that brings you joy; visualize it, evoke it with all your might. In that place open that window in your imagination and toss your tensions to the wind. Watch them flutter, drift off, float and shift into nothing. If you will, fancy yourself wading in a babbling brook Where the current tugs gently at your ankle. Or replace babbling brook to whatever your happy place is. Remain in that moment for as long as you need to. Return to it often and know that it’s your perfect gateway to calm.
