Confessions of a Medium Reader & Info Hoarder-Gatherer

OVER 1700 saved articles , mostly unread. I’ve been trying to stop adding more since I hit 500.

In my Archives are mostly ‘read’ articles that I want to read again in depth, refer to later or share with others when I have some time, if by chance I remember in the first place. I’m so proud to have less than 100 in the archives!

No surprise! This Information Addict article resonates with me!

Last week I decided the hoarding had to stop. I decided I would stop saving articles daily and allow myself one week every month to save articles so that I’d be READING saved articles over the other three weeks each month.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Still hoarding one week later, even if at a slower pace!

I’m saving for future delayed gratification.

I’m creating digital clutter because I can. The nature of our era of excess!

Information Hoarding has some strong drivers, enabled in my case by the fact that clicking the save button literally costs nothing in time or effort and I’m saving in the first place because something about the title, photo or a quick scan caught my interest.

And hey, isn’t my membership about accessing articles that interest me?

And isn’t hoarding driven by a sense that the process is worthwhile?

Massive FOMO – Fear of Missing Out!

Do I Actually Believe I’ll Read Most of My Hoarded Articles?

Actually YES!

Because the hoarding ends now, as I type this.

Though if my ‘unread but purchased’ book stacks are anything to go by, even as I keep adding to my Goodreads ‘To Be Read’ book list …. You could be forgiven for doubting me.

You can be sure of one thing though:

I may not read all that I hoard but I’ll be reading regularly anyway! I’m a reading hoarder not just a hoarder!

Couldn’t Resist Adding:-

Digital clutter is saved on servers that use precious energy. Till we’re a solar powered planet we can’t really afford digital clutter. Still, I’m a click away from adding more.

36 hours later and I now have 1800 saved articles. I regret to confess that the hoarding continues …

But on the bright side, I’ve also READ quite a few articles today without adding them to the saved pile! 😂😂😂😂👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😇😇

Also, do serious writers use emojis, EVER??????????!!!!!

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Update! Three weeks later and I’ve added quite a few in the last 48 hours. New challenge, to read them all before I save anymore. Method: only open Medium when I have time to READ. That way there’s no actual reason to save for later!

This morning, after 15 minutes of being awake I added 150 minutes worth of reading time. I could have read 10% of those articles in that time instead of hoarding them.

The Last Card Will Be Added in December 2020.

Will I Quit Hoarding?

What Will Be My Stash Total Then?

Feel Free To Place Bets.

Will I Read and Delete My Hoard Down To 1500,1000,500… Zero?

Or Will My Hoard Hit 10000 or Even 12,000?
