Confessions of a cat whisperer

Does this sound like you?

You’re youngish, but you already have all the trappings of a cat lady/gentleman. You have an enormous cat tower in your living room, with cat toys scattered all around the floor. You spend a lot of money on the best cat food for your precious dumplings, and you dedicate a lot of time of trying out those crazy DIY cat crafty projects.

Oh — the most important thing: you have one, two, or many, many fur children.

What is a fur baby?

If this is you, you definitely are not alone. There are cat moms and cat dads out there for cats of all sizes, shapes and breeds!

Astrid is my little snuggly goblin

You probably guessed from the title — I’m one of you. I am the proud mother of my two fur children, Astrid and Chumbo. They’re two Maine Coons and they’re my WHOLE heart. I love them.

But what I found when I was developing into my fully-fledged cat-mom self, there’s next to no good information out there for well-meaning ‘pawrents’ (as we’re known in the pet vernacular). Some anecdotes, some stories, but no hard and fast, tried-and-true info to help me do stuff for and with my cats.

Sure, lots of DIY projects. But when I tried doing one? Obviously I failed miserably.

So much potential for failure

Tons of alleged expert sites gave me ‘info’ on their food and treats, but that didn’t stop my poor kitties from randomly throwing up certain types of food for no particular reason.

There were lots of tips on training cats that never quite panned out. I eventually learned to walk my cats with a LOT of trial and error.

Chumbo out for his walk

Although Cat Mom is my primary occupation, I also have a background in science. This means I have a deep interest in experimenting and talking about my results in a way that other people will be able to do as well.

And that’s why I decided to start this blog. I’m going to talk about my experiences and the DIY projects, cat treats, training tips. What worked, what didn’t and my best guesses as to why. (I might also sprinkle in cute pics and stories of my cats, but who doesn’t love those?)

I look forward to sharing our stories and experiences!
