Confessions After Writing for 122 Days Straight
You need to get in the zone to be a better writer

Going into my fifth month of writing every day, a few days were tough but overall writing was easier. Once you get into a good routine, writing is almost the same as eating breakfast every day. You retrain your mind and writing becomes a natural habit.
Let me get right to the point on why you’re reading this. I don’t like to waste your time. If you want to write every single day you have to manage your time. Whether you write in the morning, afternoon, or evening, you need to figure out when you’ll write in the 24 hours you have. Figure out what time works best for you to write. Sorry I can’t answer this one for you.
If you’re stuck and can’t think of any ideas, this is one topic I’ll mention. Writing sounds easy but you need to have topics to write about. Then as you’re writing, you’ll run across some haters, people who come out of nowhere to bash your writing for no apparent reason. I’ve had a few of those already.
You need to have tough skin when you share your work online. People are not afraid to criticize you online. I doubt they would do the same if they met you in person. It’s funny on the internet, everyone suddenly becomes an extrovert online when they’re usually reserved and quiet. That’s a little downfall of using the internet today.
The five topics in this article include:
- Keep a list of articles to write on
- Writing every day gets easier
- Experiment with other topics could be an eye-opener
- The more you write, your followers increase
- Trials and errors with your writing
Keep a list of articles to write on
All there is to writing is having ideas. To learn to write is to learn to have ideas.
Robert Frost
There will be days when you can’t think of anything to write about, so you end up writing nothing. You stare at your computer and all you see is a blank screen. If you do that, you need to stop. There are much easier ways to write instead of wasting time.
Block out time to list topics that you like to write about. You can keep the list on whatever works best for you. Your phone, a notepad by your computer, a book to write down your topics, whatever is easier for you.
Once you have your list, create 10 topics you want to write about. After you have your list, continue adding to the list. You may think of new ideas when you’re reading an article, a book or you catch something from a movie or a YouTube video.
When you get ready to write, pick a topic that looks interesting to you.
There are some days, you won’t feel in the mood to write about writing, personal development, or technology. I don’t think you should force yourself to write about a topic unless you feel like writing that topic. If you force yourself to write something, it may not be your best work and your readers can see that.
Writing every day gets easier
Your habits will determine your future
Jack Canfield
At first, there will be days you ask yourself, why am I writing? After you write for a few weeks, writing gets easier. There will be days when you have other events that interfere with your writing time. This is normal and you need to remember not to skip those days. On those days, you need to write earlier or later in the day.
Once you do this for a few weeks and months, your writing becomes a daily habit. Then you get this feeling and can’t wait to write your next article. Ben Franklin had a habit of waking up at 5 am every day and then had a name to every hour to maximize his time. You’ll get the same way but maybe not as detailed for every single hour.
Having a daily routine makes writing a normal habit. You can compare writing to eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Normally, you eat at 7 am, 12 pm, and 6 pm. If you block your writing around your eating routine, I’m sure you’ll get a lot more accomplished. Writing every day will become easier and easier.
Experiment with other topics could be an eye-opener
Writing to me is experimenting through my fingers.
Isaac Asimov
After you have written for some time, maybe you want to dabble in other areas that you haven’t written about before. This can be risky but you also need to be patient. Your readers may not be used to a new topic and you’ll have to spend time to find other readers who are interested in this area.
When you do this, you may see a decrease in your views. I tried a few new topics last month and saw a decrease in my reads. By the end of the month, I was worried that I was going to have a very bad month. You have to be ready to suffer the results when you do this.
Writing on new topics will expand your reach and open you up to new readers. You could get lucky and find a topic that really resonates with a lot of readers. I encourage you to try writing about new topics.
The more you write, your followers will increase
If your goal is to have satisfied customers…
It’s time to raise the bar.
You need to create
Raving Fans.
Louis Massaro
When you write every day, your number of followers will increase. People will see your article and they may decide to follow you back. I averaged close to 200 new followers last month. Writing every day has a lot of benefits but you have to put in the work.
Whether you get one new subscriber to 1000 new subscribers, there are readers out there who want to read your work. Continue to provide your readers with the best work you can give them. So you need to make sure you proofread your work before you publish. Even after editing your work, it’s still easy to make simple mistakes.
Don’t get too overconfident with your writing. Write your first draft and then edit your work. The more attention you take in this area this will help you to get more followers.
Trials and errors with your writing
Writing is the painting of the voice.
Voltaire
There is nothing wrong with experimenting with your writing. As long as you write every day, try something new. Experiment with listicles, poetry, an article of less than a minute, and others. Try something new on the days you don’t feel like writing your normal article.
There are so many ways to write even when you don’t feel like it. The only one keeping you from writing is you. A lot of writing is mental. Mentally you have to be ready to write.
Just as an athlete has a good or bad game, usually they weren’t focused to go out and have a good game. When your mind is affected by the news, family, personal issues, it’s easy to lose your focus.
If you remember Michael Phelps in the last Olympics in Rio 2016, Phelps won five gold and one silver medal. Before his next event, he had on his headphones and was in the zone getting ready to swim. Phelps is a big fan of Eminem. During the 2016 Olympics, Phelps was listening to Steve Aoki and Afrojack’s “No Beef” and Nero’s “Promises”.
Maybe you need some music to pump you up before you start writing. It doesn’t have to be what Phelps listens to but what music you really enjoy. Sometimes you have to be in the zone to write your best work.
The lyrics of the song could also give you some ideas for your writing. Music does have a way to get you in a better mood. This might help you focus and before you know it, you’ll start typing away.
