Comparing Your Journey to Others? Here’s Why You Shouldn’t
Finding balance in the race of self-discovery

To me, life is a bit like a buffet — everyone’s filling their plates with different dishes at their own pace. And it feels like I’m at the salad bar while my friends are already munching on the main course.
Because I’ve got a friend who got married a few months back and another who’s juggling college with a job. I’m genuinely proud of them.
Meanwhile, in the daily episodes of keeping up with my exhausting life, two roads diverged in the yellow woods and I am stuck at the forkroads, contemplating whether to attend an offline college or just wing it with an online degree — decisions, decisions!
You don’t need detailed statistics about who’s sprinting and who’s crawling here because, honestly, we don’t need to call the Flash to figure out I might be moving at a turtle’s pace.
Then again, as stated by Julissa Loaiza, “Everything in life happens according to our time, our clock. You may look at your friends and some may seem ahead or behind you, but they’re not. They’re living according to the pace of their clock, so be patient. You’re not falling behind, it’s just not your time”.
So, to make myself feel better, let’s say I’m just aesthetically late.
I’ve pondered over this for a solid two minutes (max), and I am a believer in destiny, the whole “what’s meant for you will find you” type of a believer.
But then the logical side of my brain gives me this advice like, “You gotta work for what you want” and “Life’s about choices, not timing.”
Paradoxically whimsical isn’t it?
If you seem to relate to this sort of perspective, then let me tell you, I’ve figured it out for you. Or at least I tried being Socrates after reading millions of life quotes on Pinterest. What?
If you’re like me, feeling like you’re slogging through life in slow motion, remember this: “Your progress, no matter how slow, still outruns the couch potatoes.”
And for the speedsters trying to catch up to Usain Bolt: “Don’t aim to perfect your entire life in a single day. Take a breath. Master today. Sometimes, slowing down is a wise choice. Your pace reflects your growth & maturity.”
And now for the finale, can we talk about the logistics behind comparison? No matter how hard it is — and believe me, I know it’s challenging, given my turtle-like pace — I’ve always kept my eyes on my own goals.
So carve these words in your head: Define Your Goals & Stick To Them. Nobody’s going to interrogate you about your life choices. If it’s propelling you forward, that’s all that counts.
In Shakespeare’s words — “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.”
Life is like an amusement park; there’s no winner’s podium, just a wild, funhouse mirror maze, and we’re all in it for the thrill of the ride.
