Common Misconceptions about the Twin Flame Journey — What it is, and What it Isn’t
This article may not be pleasing to some. But I felt called to pen this due to the misconceptions that appear to be rampant out there, ranging from trying to fit all experiences into the Twin Flame template, to blaming one’s situation (erroneously perceived as a Twin Flame journey) as being the work of the devil.
Therefore if any portion of the write-up does not resonate with you, please leave it behind as it is not intended to insult or cause offence.
First misconception: It Makes me Broke
- No, it isn’t about making you Broke
On the contrary, it is to make you more abundant.
Because abundance isn’t just about physical wealth, it is actually how we feel inside. And once we feel abundant within, the external money will be automatically attracted to us.
Why? Because the Twin Flame journey isn’t a monk’s/nun’s path of austerity which requires the shunning of all material things such as money and material comforts.
The Twin Flame path brings to the Twins the abundance they need, because it then sparks the interest of others regarding spirituality as they realize that being spiritual does not necessarily equate to material poverty.
The need to abstain from material comforts will come about eventually as one embarks further into the stream of enlightenment. When letting go of all attachments to material things will be necessary reach full enlightenment (but the Twin Flame journey is not yet in that particular phase).
Instead, the Twin Flame journey is about making us fully present and aware, and therefore being grateful for each moment that we breath. Because gratitude is a very important step in spirituality (and in attracting abundance if that is what we seek).
Consistent gratitude leads to contentment, which then sets the stage for future lifetimes (or for some rare souls, within the same lifetime that they encounter their Twin Flame connection) when we will be able to relinquish attachment to all creature comforts and yet feel fully contented. This then leads into the next common misconception…
Second Misconception: It brings about Full Enlightenment
- No, it doesn’t bring about full enlightenment
Anyone who claims that they have been fully enlightened will likely be speaking from their ego.
A person who is fully enlightened has no need to declare this, nor will he/she do so, or feel any inclination to make any such announcements.
When we are in the presence of such a person, we will know because his/her aura will make us feel fully at peace and yet oh-so-very happy at the same time. Simply by his/her being in the same room or football field (even if at the far end).
A fully enlightened person is someone who has truly pierced the veils of illusion and has no more attachments to anything or anyone. He/she will experience no further rebirths upon the expiration of his/her current physical vessel.
Third Misconception: It makes me Perpetually Crazy or Sad
- No, not in the long term once full surrender has occurred
Yes, when we are not in full surrender, we do feel crazy.
The extreme highs, then the chasms of low, followed by heartrending pains (during separation).
But once full surrender has been achieved and healing begun, equilibrium will arise.
And as the healing further progresses, not only is sanity very full on, there will be inner peace, confidence, and joy.
Yes, Joy, even if no “good fortune” in a material sense (and often we tend to associate a blessing as something that appears materially, such as winning the lottery, securing a new job or romantic partner), appears to be happening in the external world (he/she is still physically alone without his/her Twin Flame counterpart, etc.).
This is because ultimately whether we are happy or otherwise is an internal state of being. Our ego tells us that in order to be happy, we must have $XXX,XXX,XXX in the bank, a loving doting romantic partner, a huge house, etc., etc., the list goes on.
But very often we find that those who are materially rich and glamourous are still extremely depressed.
On the other hand, many enlightened monks/nuns who possess nothing materially are cheery about their austere lifestyles.
This is because ultimately, happiness is a state of the mind, a state of our being.
And this is the state that the Twin Flame journey is aimed to bring the Twin Flames to.
Not misery, insanity or depression in the long run.
Fourth Misconception: My Twin Flame is my Perfect Romantic Partner
- No, the Twin Flame journey isn’t about gifting anyone with a romantic partner, much lest the perfect romantic partner
Yes, you heard that right.
The Twin Flame journey is not about romance.
The Twin Flame journey is about spirituality.
It isn’t about being physically together with the Twin Flame counterpart, holding each other’s hand and singing together happily in the garden for the rest of their lives.
It is about taking responsibility for one own’s life, becoming fully aware of each person’s own inner demons, shadows and mental limitations (whether due to societal imprints, generational curses, or past experiences and traumas).
The Twin Flame journey helps us to experience what unconditional love and oneness feels like. This inexplicable love does not need to be justified. It cannot be described. It can only be felt. This is why the Twin Flame journey is necessary to reduce our mental stronghold on dualism.
This understanding arising from our experience then leads us to the one and only perfect partner that we can have, i.e. the Universe (which would of course involve us as part of the Universe/God/Divine).
Fifth Misconception: It ties one down to a Miserable Connection/Situation
- No, it isn’t about Being Tied Down into an Unequal Relationship
It seems that there are some out there who after having failed to unite with their Twin Flame physically, or having split after physical union and fall into pieces, thereafter categorising the Twin Flame journey as the devil’s work instead, and having been rescued by God.
It is true that they were rescued by God, because ultimately God rescues everyone who asks.
But this does not mean that the Twin Flame journey is the devil’s doing.
What it means really is that they were not on the Twin Flame journey, but they perceived themselves to have been, then blame their actions on the Twin Flame journey. Ultimately, we are the ones who decide what we want to do (or not do), there is no gun pointing at our heads.
Why? Because God/Divine/Universe does not asks of anyone to be unhappy, or to be tied down to an unreciprocated relationship, even if the counterparty is a Twin Flame.
Instead, if the connection becomes toxic, the Divine will step in to physically remove all communications between the Twins. Repeatedly too, if necessary.
It is our own human fallacy that refuses to listen to the Divine. Our own egos and minds that keep hanging onto the concept of our Twin being our perfect partner. So much so that we refuse to heed the advice of the Universe even when that advice appears right in front of our eyes (instead we will interpret it in the manner that our desires prefer).
We do have free will. And if we exercise that to keep insisting on our own ways, notwithstanding all the help that the Divine has rendered, then there is nothing further that the Divine can do.
Inevitably then because we have been acting on our ego’s whims, everything falls apart, including ourselves.
Is this then the work of the devil? Maybe. But if so, then it’s the devil within us, the part of us that is so attached to a desired outcome, to a person, to a situation, to a concept (such as being on the Twin Flame journey), that we are unwilling to let go even when we know it is not good for us. I guess a similar comparison would be addiction to drugs or the Stockholm Syndrome, where the person knows its detrimental to his/her health, yet he/she refuses to let it go because of he/she has become so used to how the drug/kidnapper makes him/her feel.
Sixth Misconception: The Twin Flame Relationship is Superior
- No, there is no superiority in a relationship being a Twin Flame connection
There are no hierarchies in relationships.
As long as the relationship satisfies what both parties desire or need, on a physical, spiritual, emotional, psychic level, etc. then that is a superior relationship indeed.
There is no need to try and fit every attraction to another person, or pain felt in relation to someone else, into the Twin Flame template.
Because in the first place, the Twin Flame relationship isn’t a relationship about romance, it is about spiritual awakening and union within oneself (and God/Divine/Universe, not another human).
Enjoy and learn from each relationship, because every experience teaches us something. As we grow, so will our connections with others.
By trying to label our relationships as Twin Flames when they are not inevitably curtails our learning experience because we view the relationship through lenses of bias and are trying to apply “Twin Flame techniques” that are just likely to be irrelevant.
When a relationship is suitable for you, you will know. Simply from the peace, contentment and joy that you will experience (maybe not at every single moment because quarrels unfortunately will still occur as part of the inherent nature of human interactions, but at least most of the time). You will feel heard, acknowledged and understood.
I could go on and on…but I should stop babbling now 😅.
In any event, the above is just my two-cents worth, which of course, may not be agreeable to everyone. I do hope however that a part of the above does help to bring some form clarity to at least one person in this new year.
Happy New Year and may this new year bring greater elucidation to everyone! 🎊
