Comment Limits

…..are there any?

I’ve been reading a lot of your articles today and finding lots to comment on and talk about.

About an hour ago, I noticed that my comments are being “held” in the drafts section.

Has this ever happened to you?

I’ve tried looking in the guidelines and can’t find anything. I found a discussion in an old reddit article from 2019, but the link to Medium’s rules still don’t specifically address this.

Does anyone have any information about why Medium will hold comments in draft form? What happens next? Is there anything I can do?

Thank you for commenting (and hopefully I’ll get it!)

UPDATE: January 22 at 10:30 am

Dear friends, cherished fellow writers,

As of right now, my comments to your articles remain in draft prison. We await help from friends on the outside, as we are not sure if the warden is aware of the situation.

To the friends who have sent us words of comfort:

Don Drewniak, who commented: “I have found that after x number of comments (the number varies) that the submit button ceases to work for an indeterminate time. No idea as to why.” — thank you, Don. I replied last night, and the comment was displaying here in the story as a number ( 1 reply) although you could not see the words. This morning, even that was gone. It has not reappeared after 10 hours, I will check again after 24 hours, and thence again on Monday.

Tyra Jaide, who commented: “Hmm how wierd I wish they were more transparent and told us an exact number or somethig..” — thank you for the support, Tyra. I have struggled in vain to search throughout the land for the ancient rules and regulations by which we all must live…..I cannot find a single rule about a limit on the number of comments, although I will confess to you that I spent about 9 hours on Friday in reading articles and made approximately 105 comments…..of which, about 20 are still being held in drafts. My guess is, somewhere around 75 is the limit. I could be wrong.

Christina, who commented: “Interesting. I have not run into this, yet anyway. Hope you get it sorted soon.” — Thank you, Christina. I certainly hope I find out what I have done wrong so that I don’t ever do it again. I am truly repentant, but I would not un-read a single article that I consumed yesterday. If only I’d kept my comments to myself. But I so did wish for each of you to know what I enjoyed about your stories and writings. Alas, it has been my undoing I fear.

Lucy Socha, who commented: “Let me know when you have it all figured out. Thank you, Judy.” — My dearest Lucy, your kind and affectionate words of support will strengthen me as I face these dark days of draft prison, and when I re-emerge, if that is to be, I will once again be eager to read what you have produced in the meantime and hearken unto thy voice of wisdom and encouragement.

Therefore, knowthis, dear friends, one and all, this may be the last you hear from me until my rescue. If I am lost forever, please know I will remember you all with much fondness.

David Perlmutter, Ev Williams, Medium@help! anyone! please?

YES! I have successfully commented on an article! I calculate about 18 hours in draft jail. Unless someone at Medium took pity and let me out early for good behavior. Don Drewniak, Tyra Jaide, Christina, Lucy Socha — thank you!

I like it when you read my stories, but I LOVE it when you subscribe!
