LOVE AND HOPE IN DIFFICULT TIMES
Come Together
Aren’t we all a little broken?

“She’s got gaps, I’ve got gaps, together we fill gaps.” ― Sylvester Stallone as Rocky (1976)
When broken things come together, their fissures and cracks interlock, A new form emerges, strong and resilient, it will not fail.
The pieces that were once shattered and splintered Now fit together, a new form is tendered.
The cracks that once separated and divided, Now unite and a new form is provided.
The fissures that once caused pain and strife, Now bring together a new form for life.
When broken things come together, their fissures and cracks interlock, A new form emerges, strong and resilient, it will not fail.
I’ve had the “gaps” quote from Rocky rumbling around in my mind for a while. When I saw the prompt for September in Paper Poetry (“Love and hope in difficult times”), I knew I wanted to use this quote as inspiration for a response. We bring our “fissures and cracks” with us in our relationships. With love, patience and respect, we can fill the gaps.
There will be difficult times along the way. Sometimes, unfortunately, the challenges are insurmountable, and the gaps widen to a point that they can no longer be filled. It takes both people to fill the gaps. One cannot do it alone. Hope can be restored, in some cases, with outside help from a professional. Early intervention, as in any type of treatment, provides the best outcome.
To those readers in a relationship, go fill those gaps with love, patience and respect!
I want to thank Indubala Kachhawa, an editor of Paper Poetry for providing this thought provoking prompt. I’d like to invite Lauren Coggins, Surekha Chandrasekhar, Gerald Washington, Kevin Kaczmarski, and Dave Karpowicz to participate in the September writing prompt.
