College Football Bets for 11/14
Welcome back everyone! Last week we went 1–2 with our college football bets. We’re back this week with a few of the best bets available for us this weekend. Let’s first review what did and didn’t work last Saturday.
What Went Right?
Last week I mentioned how it was the perfect situation for Notre Dame to get a victory over Clemson. The Fighting Irish were playing at home while Clemson was without their star quarterback and 3 defensive starters. Notre Dame came out ahead winning 47–40 in double overtime.
What Went Wrong?
I made the mistake of underestimating Liberty as they played in Virginia Tech. VA Tech was favored by 14 points and I thought they would pressure Liberty’s offensive line and cover the 2 TD point spread. Instead Liberty showed that they deserve to be ranked and went on to defeat Va Tech 38–35. I was confident that Georgia would be able to defeat Florida and was optimistic they could cover the 3.5 point spread. I didn’t even need to worry about that half point as Florida ate up Georgia’s top defense and won 44–28.
College Football Bets
The purpose of the start of my blog, where I review last week’s results, is to learn from it. We can learn what worked and, more importantly, we can learn from our mistakes. That doesn’t mean we have to be gunshy if something didn’t work before. Even though we lost our Virginia Tech bet last week I am going to take my chance with them again this week where they’re favored by 2 points hosting the 9th ranked Miami Hurricanes. The Virginia Tech Hokies are coming off of a home loss to Liberty and they are going to take their frustrations out on Miami. Miami has given up 400+ yards in each of their road games this season. Two of those games they gave up 200+ rushing yards. If the Hokies dedicate to run the ball against this Hurricanes rush defense I see them covering the -2 point spread and winning this home game.
The winless Illinois Fighting Illini will be heading to Rutgers to take on the Scarlet Knights. Illinois is 0–3 but they had a few players out due to Covid. They’re back to full strength and looking to get their first win of the season. Neither team has been too impressive yet but I think the game should be close. A healthy Illinois getting 7 points in a game that they could win outright looks like a great spot to me.
Saturday evening we’ll see the SMU Mustangs travel to Tulsa for a conference battle. Tulsa hasn’t played in 2 weeks so they should be nice and rested as they host the Mustangs. Tulsa is 3–1 but they’re 3–0 in conference games winning the last 3 games they’ve played. One of those wins was a road victory against a ranked UCF. It’s hard to bet against Tulsa in this spot being favored by a field goal at home. I like Tulsa -3 here.
