COLLABORATIVE LIFELONG LEARNING — It’s Not About Me/but We

As robust as the words “I AM” are, they are exponentially more dynamic when used in unison with others. When wondering why we are here on this planet, it is not just “I” who is here, but we. The question truly is, why are “WE” here?

Several years ago I read “A New Earth — Awakening Your Life’s Purpose” by Eckhart Tolle. One facet of his work awakened in me the idea of who “I” was. Who is asking when I say “Who am I?” Who is speaking when I say “I do this” or “I do that?” Who is “I?”

Working on that for several years helped me to better understand my consciousness, or perhaps better said, my lack thereof.

Why am I asking this? Because in my quest for understanding and pursuing Lifelong Collaborative Wisdom through collaborative learning, I discovered I could not get there by myself. The value of wisdom shared and learned collaboratively far exceeds what I could do on my own as “I” and it also far outweighs what any single being in a group could produce as one part of the sum of that group.

I ask you not to believe me; I ask you to experience it for yourself. How? Get in a group and try it. Think with them. Learn with them. Be open to discovery with them, and here’s the important part, with no preconceived idea of what the outcome will be. Just have the intention to learn collaboratively for a lifetime!

I dropped out of college in 1972 after my father's death and an emotionally charged break-up with a girl I was in love with. For 10 years I went out on my thinking I could handle life with no one else. That didn’t work.

What I have found to work for me recently was the idea that in and of myself, I had value and worth, but when I offered my gifts to a group of people intending to learn collaboratively, my value and worth increased exponentially. Today I am closer to living the life I want because I am freely living and learning collaboratively in community.

Again, no reason to believe me… I say, “Try It.” (One way to do this is attending formal or informal education as I have for the last 35 years)
