Coffee Tales: Americano
When you want to confess
Jeremy is ready to spill the beans.
For 6 months he has been trying to muster up the courage to tell his wife the truth.
Today is the day.
He makes himself a cup of Americano.
Espresso and water.
No sugar. No cream.
No sweet talk. No beating around the bush.
Today Jeremy is going to tell his wife he is in love with another woman.
That he is leaving her for that other woman.
He takes a sip.
No, you are too good for me, no it is not you it it’s me, no I hope you can forgive me, and we can stay friends.
No sweet crap. Just the truth. The bitter truth.
It’s like removing a Band-Aid. It hurts for a moment but then you get over it.
He takes another sip.
His wife comes in.
Jeremy quickly finishes his bitter Americano.
He clears his throat.
He has something important to tell her.
His wife looks at him, her eyes full of anticipation.
Jeremy looks at her, his eyes full of fear.
He tells her he bought theater tickets for tonight. They are going to see her favorite: King Lear.
