Summary

"Cocaine Bear" is a film about a black bear that consumes cocaine and goes on a rampage, leading to a chaotic gathering of various characters in a Georgia forest, with the film receiving mixed reviews for its underdeveloped central theme and uneven pacing despite some comedic moments and a well-executed bear character.

Abstract

"Cocaine Bear," directed by Elizabeth Banks, revolves around a 500-pound black bear that ingests a large quantity of cocaine, triggering a violent rampage in the Georgia wilderness. The incident attracts a motley crew of law enforcement, criminals, tourists, and teenagers to the scene. While the movie promises an absurd and thrilling premise, it falls short in fully exploring the potential of its cocaine-fueled bear protagonist, reducing the animal to a standard aggressive behavior towards humans, with cocaine merely serving as a temporary pacifier. The film's bear effects are commendable, and there are scenes that successfully elicit laughter. However, these are offset by stretches of unfunny and purposeless content. The acting is deemed acceptable, though not outstanding. Overall, "Cocaine Bear" is described as a time-waster with occasional entertaining moments, and it is suggested for viewers who enjoy gore, while others are advised there are more humorous films to consider.

Opinions

  • The film's main flaw is its failure to fully develop the concept of a cocaine-addicted bear.
  • The bear's portrayal, while violent, is not significantly different from a typical bear's behavior, with cocaine only serving to quiet it down temporarily.
  • The bear's CGI and overall depiction are considered well-done and are highlighted as perhaps the sole successful aspect of the film.
  • Humorous scenes are acknowledged, but they are counterbalanced by long, unfunny segments that do not contribute to the movie's entertainment value.
  • The acting is seen as acceptable but not exceptional.
  • The overall impression is that the movie is a waste of time, despite some enjoyable parts.
  • Viewers interested in gore might find the movie worth watching, whereas others are encouraged to seek out funnier alternatives.

Cocaine Bear — Elizabeth Banks

To find out what happens when a bear becomes addicted to cocaine

Quick Summary

After a 500-pound black bear consumes a significant amount of cocaine and embarks on a drug-fueled rampage, an eccentric gathering of cops, criminals, tourists, and teenagers assemble in a Georgia forest.

My Thoughts

If you dread a simple bear, then ask yourself what a bear under the influence of cocaine can be capable of. Well I wonder too, I have seen Cocaine Bear, but I would say that the main flaw of the movie is that the main aspect, that is to say the combination bear + cocaine, is not developed enough.

Indeed, the bear is finally a normal bear, violent with humans. The only difference is that he is addicted to cocaine, so you just have to throw a bunch of cocaine at him to be quiet for a while.

On the other hand, the bear is quite well done, in fact it is perhaps the only thing well done in the film. There are also a lot of passages that made me laugh, but also a lot of long or useless moments, that don’t make you laugh and that don’t bring anything to the movie. The actors are not exceptional but it is still acceptable.

All in all, this movie will give you the impression to waste your time, even if there are some nice moments.

To Watch or Not to Watch?

If you like gore, why not watch this movie. Otherwise, there is not much interest, you will find many more funny movies.
