I wrote a series of blog posts for an organization on Cloud Security for Developers. The series consisted of three parts covering the fundamental aspects of cybersecurity. Often we think about the tactical implementation of cybersecurity controls as “security” without thinking about the overarching objective.

Cybersecurity, at its core, is not about network rules, firewalls, authentication, or authorization. Cybersecurity aims to minimize the potential losses or negative consequences a business will face due to a security incident. The ultimate goal of a company is to achieve profitability and to maximize shareholder value. How does security help with that mission? And can’t developers just do it all themselves so we can get rid of that pesky security team?

I address these questions I occasionally get in my very high-level overview of why companies hire security teams and how developers are crucial to the success of a company’s cybersecurity objectives. Check out these blog posts to learn more.

Cloud Governance and Risk Management. Why all the rules? Is the security team just trying to give themselves a reason for being or do all those rules actually serve a purpose?

Do You Really Need a Security Team? What do they do? What sort of training do they have? Can’t developers just do it all?

How Developers Can Help Prevent Data Breaches. Developers have a core skill set many security teams lack. Development and security teams can help each other be more effective if they can understand each other better and share a common mission.
