What is a Fibonacci poem?

My career is in accounting. When I write, I imagine flipping one switch to turn off numbers and another to turn on words. Yet, that sometimes feels disingenuous because I am not one or the other; I am both.

Today, I fused the two to create my first Fibonacci poem, and I chose to express it as a spiral going back to the original one.

Certainly not my best poem ever, but an interesting experiment using a poetry form that’s new to me and also incorporating one of my photos as inspiration.

I must admit that weaving numbers and words was a little uncomfortable. Other than the occasional haiku or tanka, I don’t count as I poeticize; the combination feels too controlled and balanced, too much like my work. And, yet, there was an unexpected satisfaction to the practice, as though I introduced two friends and they liked one another.

I do believe I will try this again someday. How about you?
