Cliffside Beaches Offer Stunning Views of the Sea
My eyes were fixed on the waves crashing the shore

The first time I fell in love with the sea was in Kovalam, a small town in the state of Kerala, India. Kerala is famously known as ‘God’s own country’ due to its rich natural heritage and ecological diversity. The beautiful beaches and lush green landscapes and are sure to leave you mesmerized.
‘Kovalam’ which translates to ‘grove of Coconut trees’ nestles on the edge of Arabian Sea. I had been to other beach towns before but this was different.
As soon as we entered our hotel, the glistening sea caught my attention and I couldn’t wait to soak in every bit of it. This hotel is built on a cliff mountain offering breathtaking views.
The beauty of the sea
Observing nature is so relaxing, being enveloped by an air of serenity that calms your mind like nothing else. This sense of peace and solitude can’t be replicated elsewhere in the world.
The gleaming water, the swaying palms, the sound of waves crashing the shore, the soft breeze caressing the skin, opens your senses and bares your soul like no other.
I stood there mesmerized by the beauty and the urge to get closer to nature, to lose myself in its vastness. I sat for hours on the same spot, beholding the view as much as I could.
The surroundings left me spellbound
I wondered how the sea influences the people who live near it. They seem much calm and content being surrounded by this powerful force of nature.
I observed some women working in the gardens nearby, happy and fully engrossed in their work. They did not mind me standing there watching them for a while.
Observing the fishermen
On the third day of our stay it was windy with waves soaring high, but that did not deter the local fishermen from venturing out in the sea.
They braved high tides as they went about their work, well versed with the language of the sea. It was a thrill to watch them, quite similar to watching surfers. They knew the waves well, which toppled them down but they were back up in no time.
India is not a very popular destination for surfers but seeing this was enough to send chills down my body.
What the sea taught me?
I grew up in the plains not too far from the foothills of Himalayas, so most of my vacations were to the ‘Hill stations’ a term coined in colonial India for towns located at higher elevation than the plains.
The sea reminded me how important it is to stop and observe, to take a break and develop a deep connection with the nature.
Kerala is truly a nature’s lap, a prefect getaway to find yourself leaving you with memories for a lifetime.
