Clash of Clans: Finding a Clan
The search function is not great. Browsing is even worse. External places to recruit are not organized well. I have created my own solution: the Tribe.
TL;DR: I’m running an experiment to try to build a larger, more durable institution than a mere clan; many clans linked together, with varying purposes and priorities for changing player situations. Here are the clans that I have created so far, linked together on this discord:
https://discord.gg/ZekS3uEFNs
Mr. Way’s Casino, #LGPP9088, (standard “everything” clan) MAHABARAT, #28CRYPYJG, (Very serious classic war clan) Way of Blitz13, #29UURR2RJ, (Clan for strategic rushing your war base) Guerrilla Wars, #2yRUGPPGQ (Clan for warring for loot, heroes down) WayOfSanctuary, #2PYJJL8J0 (Clan for badly rushed bases to find shelter)
Here are some more elaborate descriptions of the types of clans I am hoping to develop as more players join the discord and we see what there’s demand for. Join the discord and let me know what you’d be interested to see!
If your clan would like to link up with this Tribe, have a representative of your leadership join our discord and hit me up. I will be happy to incorporate you into our collective!

Finding a clan in Clash of Clans can be very challenging, because there are many different types of players at many levels of development, and clans can be at various levels of activity and development and go through different phases of play style.
The search feature that they introduced is useful in some ways, but also not. For example, when a clan sets their icons, it is aspirational rather than an actual description. Somebody might put “donations” because that is what they want, not because you actually get good donations there.

Furthermore, activity level in a clan is not indicated by the numbers. Although you can go through and see who has 0 donations 0 requests, it takes time to sift through. It can be very frustrating. Then, there’s no way to know when your request to join has been seen and declined or whatever. There is no way to communicate with a clan except if you are allowed to join.
This leaves you with the unsavory option of looking in external places (reddit, Discord… Medium) that have organized around Clash of Clans. Unfortunately, it’s mostly a bunch of kids and a few dorks like me in charge of those organizations, and they don’t really know what they are doing yet, although I’m very impressed sometimes with what they achieve for how old they are. They have rules to prevent spamming and a system for titling your posts for “easy” (read: it’s not entirely impractical) searching. There aren’t spreadsheets or a program with a button or anything cool like that. You just look through the top posts or search by some criteria in the title and hope everyone followed the format and represented themselves truthfully etc.

Unfortunately, typically the clans that are posting the most are also the most selective about whom they take, and the people typically having trouble finding a clan don’t have a base that is extremely competitive to get into those clans. So, there’s a severe mismatch between who is looking and who is recruiting.
Even if you do find a clan that accepts you, and they are who they advertised, there is possibly a barrier in culture or game priorities or even just time differences. Maybe you want a clan that is super-competitive about war, but your team doesn’t kick players who only 2-star sometimes. Maybe you don’t want that, but those are most of the ones posting.
Anyway, finding a clan to match your priorities is hard.
Therefore, I am attempting the following experiment. I am going to use my 15 mini accounts to create a “Tribe” starting with 15 different clans, each with different priorities and requirements. If/when one fills, I will split off with a small group of the members to form another clan of the same type and post the tag for that one here, as well.
In this way, I will be able to establish and maintain 15 different types of clan for everyone who plays the game to find the specific kind of thing they are looking for, all organized in one place, always with room for them in one of the growing ones. We will see as well which types are the most popular among my readers!
At first, obviously, there will not be many players in any of these clans. As of this writing, however, about 400–600 readers view this School of Clash every day, so if just 1% of those are interested in joining the experiment, we will fill a clan every couple of weeks.
Standard Assumption Clan Rules:
- If you are rude to clanmates, you will be demoted. If it is severe, you may be instantly banned. Be kind and supportive! You are in public!
- If you do not follow clan rules, you will be warned. Do it again, you will be demoted. If you are only a member, you will be kicked.
- You are expected to contribute to clan games. At least one challenge! If you do not participate at all and are TH6 or above, you will be dropped to make room for a living, breathing player.
- Donation expectations vary greatly across clans. Pay attention.
Note: For all of these sets of clan rules, they are guidelines for leadership, not strict rules. If I say “2 log ins every two days” that means “generally speaking, if you don’t give a reason why you’ll be gone.” I use consideration when applying clan rules, and I give “life” proper weight vs. “game.”
5. I myself will not be especially active in any clan, likely the range of 1–2 log ins every 1–2 days. I am not going to be able to do fast donations, personally. Spending 5 minutes on each of 15 accounts turns into 1.25 hours. I will act as a moderator, select responsible coleaders, establish a positive clan culture, and facilitate the splitting off when a clan reaches 50.
Generally speaking, a few coleaders and several elders will be recruited to seed a new clan. In this way, elders will have an opportunity to rise to coleader, and demand for each type of clan will be filled, and the Way Tribe will grow to unite more and more players.

Type 1: Standard War

MAHABARAT, #28CRYPYJG (More to be established as the organization builds)
This is actually three different types. These will be “standard” clans where the expectation is that everybody generally opts in for war over the long run, and uses both attacks, and does at least 1000 points in clan games, and log in at least twice every two days usually. Wrong donations strictly prohibited.
Furthermore, rushed bases will not be included in war, and indeed are not particularly welcome here. The goal is to have standard, balanced wars with players able to pick an opponent at their level. Ideally we’ll be doing 50v50.
When you level up too high, you move on to the next set of levels in the standard war type. Or, whatever. You can stay and be a donator, but you would mess up the war stuff if you stayed, so you should probably move up.
MAHABARAT is a clan led by an old clan mate of mine who is skilled at the game and has an almost maxed out base. English is not his first language, but he is able to communicate just fine. He expected strong war performance, and can teach advanced strategies.
Type 2: CWL Blitzing, low and high

Way of Blitz13, #29UURR2RJ,
Way of Blitz10, (Disbanded. Will be reestablished eventually)
This is for players who are using the War Blitz strategy specifically for CWL, and don’t necessarily find acceptance in the wider Clash of Clans community. It will be experimental for regular war, and we’ll learn a lot about how matching works, together. But, for CWL we will dominate with our fully powered edragons and scattershots, and our level 5 archer towers, walls, and heroes.
Expectation of at 2 log ins every two days as a general long-term minimum.
There will be only two levels, “high” and “low” in this case because you can get to TH 10 in like 2 months and all the way finished with upgrading your attacks (minus heroes) in just a year. So, it doesn’t make sense to have three groups, at least to my mind at this point.
Type 3: Rushed base sanctuary

WayOfSanctuary, #2PYJJL8J0, AceUpTheSleeve
This is for players who have already rushed their base very poorly, and are having a very hard time finding a clan that will accept them (and not make fun of them). The fact of the matter is that the game developers intentionally or not designed things to funnel players into making the mistake of rushing their bases so that they would feel pressured to pay money to unrush it.
I think that there is a lot of demand for players to be able still to have a clan where they are accepted and supported in unrushing their bases in a positive way. If you are a player with a rushed base, any level, join here!
For war, we will just kind of have to see what happens when a lot of rushed players play together. There is a high possibility that we will need to do “pirate wars” strategy, which I have not yet written the article to go along with. Meanwhile, you will be expected to familiarize yourself with “war blitz” offense prioritizing.
Type 4: Looting

Coming Soon!
This clan will be for players who are very interested in looting constantly. There will be a very high donation requirement in this case, because players will want to be looting a lot. Very high activity will be expected, as well.
However, for wars, there will be no expectation of anything. We will use “pirate war” strategy, where you just use heroes to snipe an easy TH for free loot. Nobody wastes a real attack, and you all get a free bonus every two days.
As such, donations of any level would be accepted unless specifically stated otherwise in the request. The idea is that everyone gives what they have and everyone uses what they get and everyone has more that way.
Ultimately, I hope that we will be able together to answer that elusive question “What is the best trophy level for a TH(X) for looting?” by collecting data from different bases at different trophy levels at the same time.
Type 5: Engineering

Coming Soon!
This clan will be experimental at this point, because I have only my own personal engineering knowledge and experience to apply. I have not done a whole lot of reading on the topic, and I have not sought out others who have experimented. But, I do have some things that I have picked up as a starting point, and I’d be very interested to work with others who want to try things out and find if we can break the matching system.
This would have a very high expectation of war participation and theory discussion, and have strict cooperation about who upgrades what and when. You would probably be best served bringing a big mini and a little mini, because there would be no donation requirements and you might not want constraints on your main.
Type 6: Mini Horde

Coming Soon!
I have a lot of minis. It’s too many, honestly, and sometimes I am embarrassed that I have 16 accounts. After this experiment, if it works out like I am hoping, I will instead be very proud of all my accounts!
If you are somebody who has a lot of minis and you don’t feel good about taking up a whole lot of slots in a clan, but you do want all your minis in one place where you can donate to yourself, then this is the clan for you! Or maybe you just want to be around a few other players who can pull as much weight as you do. Maybe you just want a place for your mini to hang out while it levels up to join your main somewhere. Whatever!
We will have no limit on how many of your own accounts you can add, and we’ll see how many minis some people have. Maybe I will find out 16 isn’t that many! (lol)
In this case, there would be only very strong expectation of war participation IF YOU OPT IN. There would be no requirement for you to opt in at any point or to maintain any level of activity except over the long run you might be kicked after a couple months of ghosting, or if we don’t finish the Games.
Type 7: Builder Hall

Coming Soon!
This clan will be focused entirely on builder base, and will not pay attention to what somebody is doing in their regular base. Wars will probably be pirate wars. No donation requirements.
However, there will be an expectation that you share layouts, share attacks, test each other’s bases, etc.
High activity level expected because BB is something with no limits on how much you can play at a time, although there is of course a loot limit.
Type 8: Casual

Guerrilla Wars, #2yRUGPPGQ, WeightedScale
Just do clan games for 1000 points and otherwise whatever.
Type 9: Hardcore War Clan
I am not going to make one of these. I don’t have an account with a base that would fit, and I am not skilled enough anyway. But, luckily for you, you can just go on reddit to r/clashofclansrecruit or the clash of clans discord or the many Facebook clash of clans recruiting, or to specific clash of clans dedicated websites to find elite clans of this variety posting recruitment information.
Type 10: Synthetic
Mr. Way’s Casino, #LGPP9088, Mr.Way’sShadow
This is really the most common type of clan that exists everywhere, so you don’t need to go here to look for it. This is the first clan I made, and one I have led for several years. Often variable or shifting organizational strategy, no exclusion, and we work with what we have to succeed in whatever way is important to the clan.
Regular activity and consideration of clan mates are the guiding principles. Nothing about your base matters, just your conduct. A desire to improve is worth more here than existing skill.
Okay, so that’s it. If you haven’t found what you’re looking for, tell me in the comments or contact me at u/Mister_Way on Reddit and I’ll see if I can set that up and see what interest there is.
For those who are first to join the experiment, you’ll have to be patient at first, obviously, for the clan to build. I will reiterate that I can only do 1–2 log ins per account per day, given how many I have.
You’ll have to become the clan coleader you want to see, early on! Of course, when I split off a new clan at 50 members, the most senior coleader will inherit the clan they helped build.
Join the Way Tribe! Let’s build this game up from the outside in!
