City Of Golden Sands — Sharjah
Episode 4
Tourist attractions, geographical location, and meteorological conditions are some of the key features to describe a city. But for me, the one word that describes Sharjah is Home!
As a kid in the early 80s, I always saw the heated matches between the decades-old rivals — Pakistan and India. I used to be glued to our old TV set, having the center stage in my parents’ room. That being telecasted from the ever so popular Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
But in actual life, I finally made it to this dreamland in 2008 as I got a job in Dubai. Sharjah being close to work, having a homely atmosphere, and an apartment to die for within my budget — I rented the place and enjoyed every bit there.
Well, enough said about my love for Sharjah.
Now, let’s talk about the city itself.
It is the third-largest of the seven states within the United Arab Emirates. It got the title of Cultural Capital of the Arab World by UNESCO in 1998. The list is never-ending, but the city is very popular for its annual light festival, museums, bargain shopping, and excellent dining options.
There is also a Sharjah Date Souq and also a famous Sharjah Gold Market. Souq is the Arabic word that means “market”. It may be worth a click on the Tourist Portal to get all the information you need before you plan a visit.
The blog cannot be over unless I talk about the single most important thing about Sharjah — the scenic corniche. It attracts thousands of visitors every day. The view is magical, especially at the time of sunset, and is ideal to view the priceless moments while sitting at a nearby café and having your favorite cappuccino or mocha.
Teaser: Tomorrow’s featured city will be Dubai!
