City Lights Runaway

Searching for a loved one…

Image by Daniel Nebreda from Pixabay

I wander through the city in the night,

Looking for her face,

In the rushing human race,

As it passes through the city lights.

……………………………………..

I study the crowds,

A glance at the fights,

Look in the bars.

Side-step the cars,

In the neon of those city lights.

………………………………………

“Hey mister, got any change,”

Not today, I say.

Then I look the other way,

Still searching in those city lights.

……………………………………

Is that her in the drab cafe?

Yesterday she was Daddy’s girl.

Now she could be any ones,

Just any ones in those city lights.

………………………………….

City lights shine brightly,

Casting shadows in the night,

Lost souls in the doorways,

In the mind, but out of sight.

…………………………………
