Summary

The "Chosen for Further Distribution (But By Smillew)" webpage features a curated selection of three articles in humor, science fiction, and short fiction genres, emphasizing that while such curation doesn't impact viewership, it boosts writer morale.

Abstract

The webpage introduces the inaugural edition of a unique curation series titled "Chosen for Further Distribution," which, despite not affecting the number of views an article receives, serves as an ego boost for the selected writers. The curator, known as Smillew, has handpicked three distinct pieces for this issue: a humorous letter of gratitude to a Holiday Inn employee named Walter Bowne, a science fiction piece that sparks imagination about "The Monastery of the Definitive Star," and a piece of short fiction by R P Gibson that, despite its seemingly mundane content, promises a profound, out-of-body reading experience. Smillew encourages readers to engage with at least one of the featured articles and invites writers to submit their work for future consideration, suggesting a community-driven effort to uplift and recognize literary talent.

Opinions

  • The curator, Smillew, believes that being chosen for further distribution is a morale booster for writers, akin to Medium's curation process.
  • The first article is praised for its humor, particularly the positive impact of Walter Bowne's customer service on the author's mood.
  • The science fiction piece is highly regarded, with its title "The Monastery of the Definitive Star" inspiring expansive thoughts and potential for further literary development.
  • The short fiction piece by R P Gibson is described as deceptively simple, transforming the reader's experience into something extraordinary and reflective.
  • Smillew expresses gratitude to Rocky Shores for motivating the creation of this curation effort, indicating a collaborative spirit within the writing community.
  • The invitation for writers to submit their work or comment for consideration in the publication underscores a commitment to supporting and amplifying diverse voices in writing.

Chosen for Further Distribution (But By Smillew)

#1

But by Smillew

Hello and welcome to the first installment of “chosen for further distribution.” It works the same way as Medium’s curation does; it has exactly ZERO impact on your views.

But it’s good for the egos. So here we (e)go.

Three articles for you this week.

#1 — Humor

Dear Management of The Holiday Inn,

I can only thank the stars for your decision to hire Walter Bowne. I arrived depressed after a long week of idiotic conferences about algorithmic distributions, and with no more than a few words, Walter put back a smile on my face.

#2 — Science Fiction

I read this piece and immediately wanted to know more about The Monastery of the Definitive Star.

I don’t know about you, but these six words are opening new solar systems in my mind. There’s a book there waiting for Stefan Grieve to write it. And even a series of books.

#3 — Short Fiction

This story is strange. On paper, nothing is happening.

It’s BORING.

R P Gibson, the author, is BORING.

But read the piece, and you’ll feel like you had an out-of-body experience. You’ll be transported to a different place and time in your life.

That’s it for today! Thanks for coming. Please read at least one of the links above.

  • With thanks to Rocky Shores for pushing me to write this lift.
