Choosing Happiness

The Spectacle of Decisions Founded in the Pursuit of Delight

Photo by Annie Spratt on Unsplash

I choose happiness.

The simple remembrance of the butterfly on the vine and the bee in the bush is evocative enough of the simple pleasures that await one if one’s mind is clear.

I choose to wallow in the shallow turquoise waters of safety and bliss. My body is taut in the cool water; my arms linger beneath the surface.

I choose to wander the winding nature trails that titillate the mind with promises of wonder.

I won’t be satisfied until I’ve found the serenity I have ached for all along. The shift away from misery is a conscious one. I reiterate the words with dawning strength and wisdom.

I choose happiness because I want to shrug off the aches and pains of the past that have been a deliberate, chosen burden.

I set my burden-free.

And I choose the sunshine.
