As a child, was a child Felt the world towering above Felt the wind threatening to knock me down Saw the earth rolling forever toward me

As a youth, never was much of one Felt constrained and out of touch Felt alone and in a rush Saw large footprints of the past all around me

As an adult, I failed the test Felt the child fighting inside me Felt the youth pretending to be free Saw the world as some playwright scribbled — not something designed for someone like me.

So, I struggled with words and attitudes Struggled with ideas and false platitudes Stifled a yawn and screamed inside And became the man, I could not hide.

Today’s prompt from J.D. Harms is a little different. I chose a poem from Gurpreet Dhariwal because it resonated with me and brought out the inner conflict I’ve always had between me, and the rest of the world. 😉
