Chicken Genius Singapore Has Quit Youtube?!

The finance community on Youtube is really toxic.

Within a span of a few years, a $200k investment turned into $5 million… crazy right?

But it is not impossible, because this man did it.

This man is none other than Ken Teng, also known as the Chicken Genius Singapore on Youtube.

More About Chicken Genius Singapore

For those who have not heard about him, he is a multi-millionaire investor based in Singapore.

95% of his portfolio is invested in Tesla. If I remember correctly, he had been investing in Tesla since 2015, and he has been advocating for people to do the same since 2015. We all know how that will turn out if we actually copy his trade in 2015… too bad for those who didn’t (including myself!).

Anyways, he has been sharing his trades on Twitter transparently. You might actually be as rich as him if you copy his trade religiously. In one of my old articles, I talked about using 13F to copy what other super-investors buy for that quarter. You can check the article here:

The problem, though, is that you will have to wait 45 days after the quarter ends for you to be able to see what other super-investors are buying. However, for Chicken Genius Singapore, he updates his Twitter followers about his trades right after he makes those trades. In that sense, we can copy his trade activities “live”.

No investors on Youtube, as far as I know, are as transparent as he is.

What Happened

In his latest Youtube video, Ken mentioned that he will be leaving Youtube.

The reason that he cited was that there were too many people flaming him for providing bad advice to his followers, or as we like to call it, the Chicken Gang. Some of those Youtube channels who publicly hated on Ken were: Joseph Carlson, Meet Kevin, Financial Education, and Everything Money.

The ironic thing is this: None of those Youtubers that I’ve mentioned above beat Ken’s investment return. And they had the audacity to hate on him. I guess it’s true when people say “the more successful you get, the more haters/ the fewer friends you’ll have”.

Anyways, Ken couldn’t handle the toxicity of the Youtube finance community, and so he called it quits.

My Thoughts

It’s saddening to see finance Youtubers hating on each other. At the end of the day, I’m sure the Youtubers want to see their viewers succeed by sharing their own investment advice.

But… why hate on Ken? Ken has been transparent with his trades and his portfolio, and he has outperformed many famed investors, not just those “experts on Youtube”. Those Youtubers are probably just jealous of him, and so they decided to flame publicly, to denounce his investment strategy.

Why should they? What rights do they have?

It’s so pathetic to see the Youtube finance community being so toxic. I do not want to say everyone there is toxic, but there are a few bad apples out there. It is sad to see him leave Youtube. I hope he is either joking or he will change his mind afterward.

While I will never, ever copy his trade to have 95% of my portfolio in Tesla — I still think that is crazy — I respect his conviction, and his investment thesis.

At the end of the day, just because someone doesn’t invest like you, does not mean that he or she is wrong. Even if you disagree with someone’s investments, don’t make any personal attacks — be professional!

Likewise, I hope the community on Medium here will learn from this, and not be toxic like some other Youtubers online. It’s good to share ideas, and it’s good to disagree with one another. But make sure you don’t target the person’s character, but rather, just his idea.

Sorry for the slightly negative article. Have a great day everyone, and R.I.P. the Youtube finance community for losing one great Youtuber.
