Cherished Reads
My favorite series in 2021

Ellie Jacobson ✍🏻 at Flint & Steel asked what our most cherished reads of 2021 were.
I cherish reading time in general, but this year my cherished reads belong to a cozy mystery series by Vivien Chien. Chien writes A Noodle House Mystery series set in Cleveland, Ohio, and features main character Lana Lee — an independent, smart, funny, resourceful main character who manages her parents’ Chinese restaurant. Her best friend and roommate help her investigate crimes that take place in the Asia Village shopping plaza where the restaurant is located. My favorite ongoing relationship is one with Lana and her boyfriend, Detective Trudeau.
Not many books make me laugh out loud, but this series does. With Chien’s smart dialogue and cast of colorful characters, I haven’t met a Noodle House mystery that I didn’t absolutely love.
I discovered this series earlier this year through the cozy mystery group I’m in on Goodreads. During a round of book bingo, one of the themes called was culinary and I picked up the first book in the series, Death by Dumpling.
Not knowing anything about the series or the author, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the first book and looked forward to the next. I’m glad there are at least two more to look forward to — one I haven’t gotten my hands on yet, the other coming out later next month.
I plan on adding my 2022 reading goals to Goodreads sometime around the new year and hopefully reading more varied genres. You can follow me on Goodreads if you like. I’d love to see what you’re reading.
