Check Out This Stretchable Display Shown Off By LG

In one of my previous posts, I talked about Corsair’s new bendable gaming monitor. With its ability to easily switch between a flat and curved state, users are able to seamlessly choose how they want to view their content.
This interesting display technology is constantly evolving over the years, and now we have a working demonstration by LG with their concept for a bendable, flexible, and stretchable display.
This new screen not only can be folded like some folding smartphones currently on the market. It’s not limited to its frame, which means it can be twisted and distorted in multiple different ways.
The display is made out of the same silicon material used in contact lenses. This is used to create a kind of film, which gives it similar properties to a rubber band.
This means the display can be stretched from 12 inches up to 14 inches. Interestingly after any amount of stress, the screen will still bounce back to its original state.
Currently, this technology is very limited and will most likely not be implemented into devices too soon. The current working display size is only 12 inches.
Now you may be asking why you would want a stretchable display. I was asking the same question until I looked into why this technology can be significant.
This type of display can be implemented into various different products due to its versatility. LG stated the following.
“Easily attachable to curved surfaces such as skin, clothing, furniture, automobiles and aircraft, this unique innovation expands the potential of the display in various industries including fashion, wearables, mobility and gaming.”
Just imagine a smartphone that can easily be wrapped around your wrist and turned into a smartwatch. Or a small tablet that can easily be attached to a piece of furniture, your car, or an article of clothing.
This technology will allow this type of versatility without the need for ugly and awkward holders or stands.
I’m seriously looking forward to seeing what LG comes up with using this extraordinary new innovation.
