Chasing California Rainbows
And enjoying its seven colors

Rainbows are formed when light from the sun is scattered by water droplets (e.g., raindrops or fog) through a process called refraction. — Royal Meteorological Society
This rainbow was found stretching over a golf course in Palm Springs, CA. I was riding my bike at the time and had to stop. While avoiding flying golf balls, I snapped a picture of this beauty.
Earth is the only planet in the solar system where rainbows occur.

This one was taken at another golf course in Palm Springs between two trees.
I lived for a year in the desert. There were golf courses and swimming pools galore. I loved the mountains and the city’s sculptures, but it was deathly hot in the summer, and the air was dusty from the winds blowing mountain dust and desert sands. Plus, my wife missed living by the ocean and didn’t like feeling isolated from everyone.
A rainbow is a complete circle, not an arc. From the ground, we only see a semi-circle.

A faded rainbow. When you see it, you better snap a picture before it’s gone. Some people are storm chasers — I’m a rainbow chaser.
The average rainbow is observable for less than an hour.

This rainbow wasn’t found in the sky but reflected on the flooring inside of our house. It was a gift from the rainbow gods, giving the room a little color.
We rented this house in Palm Springs from my wife’s friend. It was a beautiful home with a large swimming pool. But we were only two people, and a three-bedroom house with a family room was too much to clean. And it was extremely costly to cool in the summertime with temperatures reaching the 120s.
The state of Hawaii has the most rainbows on the planet.

I spotted this rainbow in Santa Barbara while driving home from my allergist. Whenever I see a rainbow, I think of the myths or songs, like a pot of gold at the end of one or the song “Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland.
Rainbows symbolize many positive things, which include:

The colors of the rainbow are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
