Charity golf tournament to support expanded opportunities for Birmingham’s communities and youth

People who are invested in Birmingham’s success have a new way to help expand opportunities for our city’s young people and for the communities they call home.
Business leaders are working collectively to support these important objectives through the Inaugural Randall L. Woodfin Charity Golf Tournament on Oct. 24. I’m honored by their efforts and gratified by their goals. Nothing is more important to me than making sure our residents and especially our youth have the tools they need to succeed.
We’ve come a long way in recent years. But government acting by itself can’t get Birmingham where we all want it to go. We need everyone to join in for progress in Birmingham, and this charity golf tournament is a way for business and civic leaders to invest in our people and improve the quality of life in all of our neighborhoods.
Proceeds from the tournament will go to a dedicated fund at The Penny Foundation, a local 501(c)(3) that connects people, organizations and resources in the areas of family, economics and community development, all through the lens of technology and innovation.
I’m grateful to Stewart Perry Construction, which has joined the golf tournament as a platinum sponsor. I’m also grateful to the Alabama Sports Council, The Benoit Group and Golf Galaxy, which are leading the way for a growing number of corporate and small businesses seeking to support these important goals for our city.
Sponsorships are still available through Sept. 30. Team registration will continue through early October, based on available slots. For more information about options for sponsorships as well as team registration, please click here.

Many thanks to the producer of this golf tournament, Sister Golf CEO Shella Sylla. Much appreciation, too, to the event co-chairs: James Kemp, director of business operations at Kemp Management Solutions; Bobbie Knight, president of Miles College; Libby Lassiter, principal at Tessa Commercial Real Estate; Merrill Stewart, CEO at Stewart Perry Construction; and Ralph Williams, area manager at Alabama Power Co.
They are all key players in the progress we already see taking place in Birmingham. Together, we can help to secure an even brighter future for our city and all who call it home.
