Chapter 28 — The Airdrop

A serial novel in the form of correspondence among a family while the world as we know it collapses around us. I recommend you start at the Introduction:

Chapter 28 — The Airdrop

Email:

Dear Dad and Benji,

This is great news! Mel and I are hugging and high-fiving and dancing around the basement.

We are also happy to report that today the city defences were blanketed by an airdrop of tens of thousands of copies of the VeRU that Mel and Jorge put together all about the corruption and cruelty of General Stewart. There are clear, full color photos. The Circle printed them on glossy paper that is waterproof. I am afraid there is a lot of litter out there!

We are hearing less and less gunfire. It is hard to tell anything, since there is no news, and the text messages have stopped. No news might mean the General is losing, because if he were winning, he would be texting all about it. It might mean something else.

Much love,

Carol

Dear Mom,

Grandpa brought Jeremy, Daisy, and me safe and sound back to the farm. We are all a little worse for the wear, but also each all in one piece. After Grandpa and his team took over the camps, the Circle sent a group of transport helicopters to airlift the other prisoners out. We got on the snowmobiles that the team brought up north, and then we made our way back south to the farm. It took two days. We spent the night about halfway at an Indian Reservation where Grandpa knows some people.

Grandma was waiting for us with a full meal of farm food. I have never been so happy for food and it has never tasted so good. The only problem was that it was impossible to eat as much as we wanted to eat. Our prolonged lack of food had shrunken our stomachs and affected our digestive systems. The Circle doctor said we should have small meals for the next few weeks and slowly build back up.

This is exciting news about the VeRU airdrop. It is amazing to think that you and Melody might have something to do with the end of this battle. I really hope it works!

Grandma and Grandpa send their love. Big hugs to you and Mel,

Ben
