Summary

In "Changing Vibrations," part of the Microscopic Fiction Series #3, a reflective dialogue unfolds between two characters at sunset, contemplating the cycles of life and the necessity of enduring division to reach unity.

Abstract

The narrative "Changing Vibrations" captures a poignant conversation at dusk between two individuals. With the sun setting behind her, one character remains in shadow, her face barely discernible, yet appearing to glow. She speaks of the possibility of birth amidst the backdrop of life's continual cycle of birth and death. The protagonist, however, is preoccupied with more personal reflections, acknowledging the constancy of change and the arrival of new beginnings. The dialogue touches on the metaphorical sound of division resonating across landscapes, symbolizing the pain of separation that must be endured to achieve a new dimension of oneness. The protagonist expresses a readiness to embrace change, especially during significant life events, and is reminded by the fading figure to "listen to the trees," suggesting a deeper, more spiritual connection to nature. The piece concludes with a reference to another work, "A Final Tree Hug," hinting at a broader narrative theme involving trees.

Encounters at sunset

The setting sun was to her back so her face was in shadow. I could barely make out her features. The sunlight behind her made her look like she was aglow.

“There may still be time for a birth.”

I knew what she meant but that’s not what I’ve been thinking about lately. My thoughts have been more personal and less global and less cosmic. Birth and death happen all the time. When the moment comes, it comes.

“Have you heard the sound of a tree branch being split apart? That is the sound echoing across the mesas and mountains and plains. It can be heard across oceans. The division is intensifying. We must go through the pain of division to get to the oneness on the other side. Once there, we will be in a whole new dimension.”

I managed to speak, “Yeah, well, uh, my dimensions have been changing like crazy — of course they are constantly changing. When a birth or death arrive I rejoice. Then I realize that it’s a good time to change vibrations. Something new is just around the corner.”

I think she smiled but I really could not be sure — what with the shadows and all.

As she began to fade away, to dissipate like a cloud, she quickly and softly said, “Listen to the trees.”
