Changing my Affiliate Marketing Strategy

More lessons I’m learning on my affiliate marketing journey.

Not long ago, I wrote a few blogs about what I believe to be the basics of affiliate marketing and the strategy I started to use to build an audience.

If you’ve read any of these, you know I’m trying to make money online using Pinterest.

My initial strategy revolved around repurposing my Medium content to create a following.

It has definitely worked to some degree. I currently have almost 5k views per month.

But now I’m having trouble making it past the 5k mark. Now, I’m realizing why — there’s no clear strategy for what kind of content I’m posting.

I’m haphazardly putting together short videos and images of quotes from my blogs.

In the beginning, this was helpful because it took away the stress of creating content with a concise strategy.

Sometimes we think having the best strategy is what we need, but the truth is, getting started however you can is the best thing.

Even though I had no clear strategy for my content, I got in the rhythm of posting almost every day, several times a day— four or five days per week, consistently for over 2 months.

That is a huge win!

Sometimes the biggest obstacle to making money in any arena is consistency.

I’m sure if I hadn’t been as consistent, regardless of what I was posting, I would not have reached 5k views in two months.

Now that I’m comfortable with posting consistently, the next step is defining what kind of content I want to post and try to monetize it.

To answer this, I had to ask myself — what did I want to share and talk about?

This led me to wonder—what things have I bought that I really like and would recommend?

What I want to share falls into the lifestyle category — using and recommending everyday things from nail polish to affordable furniture.

I thought, ‘if I bought these things because I needed them at one point or wanted to try them out to see if they worked, there must be more people like me who could use my testimony and experience.’

Realizing this has made my next step clear and more concise:

Research affiliate programs and networks I can join that include these or similar items.

The last step is to begin sharing these items through blog posts or Pinterest posts with affiliate links!

Now that’s a good strategy where I’m not throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks.

I’m learning one of the biggest obstacles to people sticking with anything related to making money online is patience.

If I had not stuck it through with Pinterest, I would not have seen the tremendous growth in views over the past two months from only posting consistently.

Now that I have a few eyeballs looking at my content, it’s time to double down on a clear posting strategy where I share products I love and recommend. And I’ll go from there.

We all start somewhere, and if, like me, you’re trying to create a strategy that aligns with your lifestyle, I recommend you give yourself ample time to figure it out, plenty of room for mistakes, and patience with the process.

I will update you on how this new strategy plays out, and I’ll also make a blog post about the affiliate programs I choose and why.

Tell me, how has your affiliate marketing strategy changed over time?
