Change can Mold us into Better, Stronger, and More Exquisite People than Ever.

We all want to live in our comfort zone. Our mind is designed to build its reality and live in that reality.

Our goals, values, dreams, experiences, observations, learning, and surroundings make our reality, and we never want to leave that reality. For example, we all have a perception of a dream and a successful life. Growing up with loving parents, completing education at our desired place, setting our desired career, finding the love of life and marrying them, and then making a sweet family. A simple life that every one of us desires and dreams.

However, life can be surprising and unpredictable in many ways. What happens if things do not go as we planned? What happens when we are stuck at one stage of our life and cannot find a way to move to the next step? Steps that we have dreamt of, steps that we have desired. What happens if life brings an unpredictable change ahead?

My thoughts and perceptions were challenged recently when I learned about the girl named Christine Ha, also known as “The Blind Chef.” She is an American chef and writer who suffers from a rare disease and lost both of her eyes. I recently learned her story, and it makes me wonder how a change in her life molds her into a whole new person and unlocks a new realm of possibilities and potential that no one could ever imagine.

If you are interested to know her and read her story, then check out,

She has loved cooking and has wanted to make delicious dishes like her mother. Her mother died of cancer, and she could not spend much time with her, but she was inspired to recreate her recipes, and she was designated to make a known chef. However, life brought an unpredictable change for her, and she was diagnosed with a rare disease that took her ability to see.

I could not imagine how her world would have fallen on her. She must have felt like she had nothing left. She was not able to cook. How can a blind person cook? She shares that she tried to make a simple peanut butter sandwich for her and was unable to align both sandwiches and ended up throwing all things in the dustbin.

Unpredictable change in her life took her everything, even the ability to pursue her dreams — the dreams she had carried with her from early childhood.

However, the only thing she did was not quit. She tried and messed up everything. She tried again and messed up all things, but she continued. Her efforts and dedication opens new realities for her. She started to use her other senses, then sight to feel things like the smell of garlic when frying, the taste of foods, the sound of cooking, and she continued towards her dreams.

You know what? She became the first blind contestant on American Chef in 2012 and won the show. She is currently running her restaurants and living her dream of re-creating delicious recipes from her mother. More power and love to her.

She made me think about how unexpected change can be the reason to find new possibilities and potentials. We all get scared of these uncertainties; honestly, we all should be scared. No one wants a detour in life; no one wants to lose his ability to make dreams come true, but we cannot control these factors fully. Right?

We have to deal with uncertainties of the future all the time. These uncertainties can come in the form of physical challenges, emotional disturbances, and many other factors.

The most important thing in such circumstances is our approach and attitude to this change.

As I started reading more about life-changing events for different people, I learned theories presented by Cognitive Scientist “Maya Shankar” about the science of human behavior. She has talked about the scary part of change and presented three questions to deal with these uncertain experiences:

you guys can listen to her valuable talks. She presented three simple questions to deal with uncertain changes in life.

1. How might this change….change what you are capable of?

2. How might this change…..change what you value?

3. How might this change….change how we define ourselves?

You should ask These three questions next time you are going through some unexpected change.

As human beings, we can be scared of change. We want a stable life with no road bumps, but it’s not the reality, and many of us already know this fact.

We know we must deal with an unpredictable and uncertain future, but we do not know how. The real answer is in process. No one can answer it for you. You have to find your answers through the process, and when you set on a journey to find these answers, think about these three questions.

Think about the new thing you can do now that seemed impossible before. Think about the new facts and values you know now that were hidden. Think about how you can redefine yourselves in a different way that could have seemed impossible before.

These are the thought patterns and perspectives that can shift our uncertainty of change into new door of opportunities and we can do better when life gives us lemons.

I hope my writing could make a small change in your day and can be source of adding a useful and positive thought in your day.
