The brilliant and inspiring Chadwick Boseman passed away at the age of 43, leaving his family and fans heartbroken.

The actor was diagnosed with cancer four years ago and fought a private battle against the cruel disease.

Many still wonder how he managed to keep his sickness a secret while tirelessly working on movies and helping various charities.

In this article, I want to pay tribute to a remarkable man who exuded class and dignity on and off screen.

A hero on screen

Chadwick Boseman played three African American legends who inspired millions of people around the world:

Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in the Major League Baseball (MLB). Boseman played the character with honour and determination in “42” which was released in 2013.

James Brown, an icon who needs no introduction. “In Get on Up” released in 2014, Boseman nailed the part of a legend who gave a voice to black people around the world.

Thurgood Marshall was the first Black Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of America. A quiet and genuine man who inspired Boseman to give one of his best performance in “Marshall”.

The talented actor went from hero to superhero when he played Black Panther in “Captain America, Civil War”.

Moviegoers were mesmerised by this character who quickly became a fan favourite in the Marvel universe.

A hero off screen

Chadwick Boseman was a man with principles, he got fired from his first acting job because he challenged producers of the serie “All My Children”.

He felt that Reggie Montgomery, the character he only played in two episodes was purposely stereotypical.

Reggie (fostered by a white family) was a young black man who never met his father and had a mother addicted to heroine. He had violent tendencies and wanted to be part of a gang.

The talented actor later praised the producers who made some changes in the character without acknowledging Boseman’s input.

The late artist was also vocal with Marvel producers during the making of the Black Panther movie.

Chadwick Boseman felt that the actors should speak with an African accent but producers thought that the audience would react negatively to this idea.

The actor held his ground and explained how it wouldn’t make sense to have the cast speak with a British or American accent. The producers finally agreed with him and the movie enjoyed tremendous success.

As we previously mentioned, Boseman never talked about his cancer diagnosis. It is heartbreaking to now know how much he must have suffered during the long days of filming.

His passion and focus may have lessened his pain. Sadly, we will never know the true extent of his battle.

Conclusion

Chadwick Boseman will stay in our hearts forever. His resilience, dedication, humility and dignity will never be forgotten.

Rest in Peace Chadwick
