Ceri-Jane Hackling Managing Director Cerub PR: “Every ‘no’ you get takes you closer to a ‘yes’.”

Ceri-Jane Hackling

Today we celebrating #IWD2020 and I’m pleased to be discussing leadership with Ceri-Jane Hackling of Cerub PR. After working in PR in London for several years, Ceri-Jane decided to move back to Buckinghamshire to move in with her partner and to take up a PR role with an agency in the area. After just six months, she was made redundant so decided the time was right to go it alone. That was almost 17 years ago.

Today we have some quick fire questions to learn more about Cerub PR and the amazing women behind it all, Ceri-Jane. Hackling.

Hi Ceri-Jane, Can you tell us what your business does? Cerub PR provides insight-driven PR and communication solutions to ambitious businesses and individuals who want to be seen and make a different to their industry.

Our clients benefit from strategic and creative campaigns which help them to stand out from the competition, manage their profile and engage with their audience.

What are the most important values to you and the business that you lead? As a company, we value honesty. We are always straightforward with our clients. We believe that a good relationship between a client and agency is based on honesty and to work successfully together, we need to make this integral in everything we do.

What is the best piece of leadership advice you have received? Every ‘no’ you get takes you closer to a ‘yes’.

As a special feature for #IWD, what does International Womens Day mean to you? International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate all the amazing women who have come before us to give us the opportunities we have open to us, but also to inspire future generations to follow their own paths and live their lives as they choose.

Can you tell us about a time that you have made the wrong decision? I believe that every wrong decision takes you in the right direction so I try not to think of them as ‘wrong’.

How do you get others to accept your ideas? I’m very persistent and very stubborn so I don’t give in easily! I like to think I’m quite persuasive too so that combination is fairly effective!

What is your next move? We’re working on our own marketing activities more. We’ve been quite reluctant to shout about our successes despite the fact that that’s what we do for our clients, so we need to be more vocal about the great work we do. We plan to take on more staff later in 2020 and continue to grow organically.
