Summary

Centina Pentina provides guidelines for submitting microfiction in specific formats and lengths, with a focus on quality and adherence to Medium's content policies.

Abstract

Centina Pentina, a publication on Medium, has outlined submission guidelines for writers interested in contributing microfiction. The guidelines specify that stories must be exactly 6, 50, or 100 words, or fall under the PostcardFiction category of up to 250 words. Each submission should include a brief bio or link to another story, separated by Medium's separator, and must not contain erotica or explicit material. Stories should comply with Medium's distribution guidelines, include a title and subtitle in specified fonts, and feature a royalty-free image. The publication emphasizes the importance of error-free, polished stories and encourages writers to use specific tags for categorization. Only one submission at a time is allowed, and while membership is not required, it is encouraged for full access to the publication's content. Centina Pentina has ceased operations, but the guidelines remain for reference.

*UPDATE* Centina Pentina has ceased. Read more here.

We are excited that you want to publish with Centina Pentina! If you have not heard these words before, read up.

  1. Your story must be microfiction. Our categories (and tags) are: 6wordstory: Stories exactly six words long Pentina: Stories exactly 50 words long Centina: Stories exactly 100 words long OneSentenceStory: Stories told in one sentence PostcardFiction: Stories more than one sentence, but not 6, 50, or 100 words. Postcard fiction can be up to 250 words. To confirm the word count, highlight your story. You’ll see the word count in the upper left-hand corner of your Medium page.
  2. You are allowed a short bio or link to another story at the bottom of your story. Please use Medium’s separator to divide this from your story. Your bio does NOT factor into the word count.
  3. At this time, we publish fiction pieces only, no poetry. There’s still plenty of amazing Medium publications featuring poetry.
  4. We will not publish any erotica or explicit material. Be creative and spare us extreme crassness.
  5. Your piece must conform to Medium’s distribution guidelines. Also, give your story a title using the ‘Big T’ font, a subtitle using the ‘Little T’ font, and add a royalty-free featured image below the subtitle.
  6. We only publish polished, error-free stories. Please proofread your work carefully before submitting. Also, make sure your submission is actually a story. If you don’t know what that means, Bill Adler can help you with his articles in the News and Tips section. If you’d like to invest in improving your writing, meet other writers, and support the pub, head over to SFS Writers Collective.
  7. You must add ONE of the following tags in your story: 6wordstory, Pentina, Centina, OneSentenceStory, or PostcardFiction.
  8. Only one submission at a time. Once your story is accepted or declined, feel free to submit your next one.
  9. You don’t have to be a paid Medium member to submit or be published in Centina Pentina, but we encourage authors to have a paid membership so they can enjoy all the stories published here, as well as some other amazing fiction across Medium. It’s your choice whether you want to profit from your work, but we encourage writers to put their pieces behind the paywall. You can always share your friend links with non-members, and links accessed through Twitter are available to non-members.

If you wish to become a writer for Centina Pentina, submit your first story using this form. If your story is accepted, we will add you as a writer so you can submit directly to the publication.
