How to find the joy in the details

Big and small moments call for a celebration. Every day we have an opportunity to see life as magical.

Tears of joy formed in my eyes as we greeted the principal at my son’s middle school during his drive-through graduation. Hearing how my son was kind and respectful to everyone made me smile.

We also remember those quieter, smaller snippets of time in these big moments.

The other day my son talked about the common phrase moms often say: “We have that at home” when a child wants a treat or something while out and about. I don’t remember ever saying it.

That bag of popcorn from the snack bar at the public pool right after swimming was always worth buying. Those rare moments of conversation with my son were golden and worth paying extra for that snack.

Life is made up of little bits and pieces. Let happiness seep into every one of them.

It can flash before us quickly if we do not stop to celebrate. An abundance of joy came from us all enjoying a slice of cake together today.

My wish for you today is to soak in the goodness of every moment. In an instant, it is over. Be glad when you stop for a treat or decide to take the long route home. Those choices matter. May there always be cause for celebration in your life.

Today I want to share a beautiful story of caring for a garden by my sweet friend Pene Hodge. She writes about gardening with her talented mother. I love what they are growing and the lessons she imparts. Thank you, Pene, for sharing the joy of nature with us!
