50-Word Fiction — Theme: Take Five
Brenda couldn’t bear the sight — the mall and the stores that were once the pride of her town in ruins.
She knew the significance of the protest.
Yet, it seemed pointless today, as she gathered the debris where her cafe stood once. All she could do was whisper a prayer.
This 50-word story was written in response to the prompt ‘Take Five’. The task was
- Go to Wikipedia.
- On the left side of the screen, you will see a list of links. The fifth item down says Random article. Click on it.
- You get five “takes” — five chances. Remember the titles of the articles, or write them down on a slip of paper.
- The goal: using one of the Wikipedia titles (or information embedded in the article), write a fifty-word story that ties in, somehow.
Of the five random articles on Wikipedia, the ones that caught my attention were — Sin Killer and Whisper a Prayer. The rest three are long forgotten. I chose ‘whisper a prayer’ to guide my muse.
Thank you for the prompt, Justin!
