Carnal Theater
Free Verse

You played your part in our carnal theater I’ll play dress-up You’ll wear a mask
Your makeup won’t come off
Bodies stretched across the living room
Wide open spaces closed-off quarters
No one lives here anymore judging from my fridge Pretty vacant like the parking lot
Carbon monoxide overflowing my garage All this free air is suffocating
The stench of your perfume the scent of corpses permeating my apartment
Bedroom confessionals and I’m your preacher
Tell me of the one above in seventh heaven
This apartment is the circles of hell
Don’t leave me standing in the doorway without my watch I feel naked without it
I stained your pillow you stained my sheets I guess we’re even now
Nothing made her cry like “Over the Rainbow” I was over the moon when it ended
You forgot your ruby slippers in my garbage disposal
Please return my books they’re long overdue much like your period
That’s the end of it
