Grandpa John’s Intention to Visit Family Goes off the Rails.

It was to be a another story about using my car to visit the family’s newest grandson. However, the tale has morphed into some sort of social commentary. Writing lurched from happy poetry to bitter prose and now stoic verse and ending with a vision of beauty and hope.
No doubt it will become a poetic saga to be recited to hushed children by family elders at some far distant family meal. But, that’s another story.

Lockdowns, Prevented visits, Fear of COVID and, Grandchild infected, Recovered now, Visit planned, For Friday, Anticipation, Smiling talks, iPhone chats, Waving hands, Thoughts on, Loving family.
Restrictions lifted, Suits and workers, Put aside, Working together, Resume traditional Squabbling disputes, Words flow, Trains stop, Start again, Restricted services, Car or train?
Car choice, Train dribble, Ends with, Cars stalled, Long sinuous, Snaky tunnels, Hours wait.
Cars disgorged, City streets, No nearby, Safe parking, Walking, Walking, Time with, Family evaporates.
Train choice, Remembered experience, Going there, Longer journey, Stops at, Every station, Leave early, Solves that.
Coming back, Another story, Trains delayed, Services cancelled, Interminable wait, Family time, cut short.
Family agrees, Postpone visit, Forest instead, Middle son, Passing by, Forest together, Orchards remembered, Base of trees, Blooming hope, Promises of beauty, Future visits, Nursing grandson, Hugging family.
