MONTHLY CHALLENGE 9

Can’t Wait for Some National Fun!

Mexican Independence Day is almost here

One of the main celebrations that a country has, is its Independence Day! In Mexico, every September 15 and 16, we have the best parties ever.

If you’re like my family and me, we prepare to have a big party with all of our loved ones the days before. Cooking, setting up proper furniture, decorations, and of course, traditional Mexican clothing.

In one way or another, every household goes all out and enjoys these days! Some may make the traditional “chiles en nogada”, enchiladas, chilaquiles, pastel azteca….there are literally a trillion Mexican dishes and delicacies to feast on. Be aware if you’re on a diet. 😆

Heard of Mexico’s tequila, beer, and mezcal? If you are into strong alcoholic beverages or mild ones, there is one for everybody’s taste!

You will find that in every town, there will be a firework show like no other. We have beautiful sculptures that will blow up in different colored fireworks. Of course, we also had to Mexify a kind of bull chasing. But the thing is, that there is a handcrafted bull that is filled with fireworks, and you have to run from it…you don’t want to get hit by one of those fireworks right? 🎆

From the north, center, and south of Mexico, there are tons of traditional ways to commemorate Independence day. I am grateful to be a Mexican because of all the colorful festivities we have, the food, and of course, the people.

That is why this September’s monthly challenge is all about…national festivities.

Where are you from? Do you like to enjoy your Independence Day? Have you organized something special to celebrate it? Do you have your own traditional parties? Have you experienced another country’s Independence Day? How was it? Did you live something new? Are you grateful to take time and celebrate this festivity in your own way, with your loved ones? We would all love to read some of your experiences.

If you’re up to the challenge, the TYN team will be posting some of the most creative and meaningful stories at the beginning of the next month on their socials. Don’t forget to add the tag Thank You Notes and Monthly Challenge. It can be a poem, shortform, essay, or anything you’d prefer!

Note: The deadline is …dun dun dun…by the end of September. 😆

We hope you have fun thinking about this challenge, writing it, and even better…reading what others have to share!

Trista Signe Ainsworth and I are eager to read about some of your experiences! We hope you like this month’s challenge! Any suggestions, advice, and comments are welcome!

Thank You Notes is extremely grateful to have all you wonderful writers. Because we appreciate all of your writing, we will double down on these monthly challenges, prompts, newsletters, editing, and more.

Cough cough, we also have new editors! YEAH! Let’s welcome Amanda Laughtland and Jeanine Tew!! 👏 🎊 🙌
