Can’t Wait for Life to Return to The Way it Was?

What if I told you that the life we knew does not suit us anymore?

Past generations have been exposed to the atrocities of war, famine, destruction, plagues, segregation, and more. And despite, and in spite of all that, they rose like phoenixes from the ashes.

Our present generation has been crippled before — Ebola and Y2K; oil spills, market crashes, and September 11th; earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, floods, and more — and more!

There’s a lot more that has happened in some geographical location or other on our beloved planet. And look at that, the world has survived somehow.

But today, not until this year has something of this magnitude as the coronavirus ever happened to all of us at the exact time. There must be more than one way to inform ourselves of what’s going on, and today I want to share my perspective.

How I See It

When you believe, as I believe, that ours is a friendly universe, and trust that the universe is conspiring for the good of all of us, you too will be able to see the silver lining I see here.

What I see happening is that the universe has issued us a direct invitation to take part in something that requires our collective and immediate attention.

We’ve been called to participate as citizens of the same world.

This has never happened before in this generation.

And just when we’re bemoaning this — this condition where the antagonist is one we cannot see with bare eyes — this terrible thing that is happening TO US, we’re nostalgic about the beautiful life that’s escaping through our fingers.

Some of us are venting, complaining, on social media about how bored we are.

Bored! That saddens me.

How soon we forget that boredom was at the top of the many other reasons we fell into drug addiction. How could anyone be bored at a time like this?

Weren’t we the ones wishing we had more time in a day?

Technology

Isn’t it interesting that, in tune to the way that technology has brought us to a point where we live with the illusion — which is not an illusion, as that’s the very connectivity that some enlightened ones have been trying hard to make us comprehend — that we are borderless in the technological sense of things?

Isn’t that interesting?

Because of this, it’s fitting to note that the current infectious disease has run rampantly without regard for borders that once tethered us to our different ‘norms’ in life.

We’ve been shaken. Some of us have become unglued with fear and uncertainty.

We cannot wait for the thing to run its course and transport us back to life as we knew it.

What if this is a turning point in our generation?

Before

What did life look like from the outside, before the outbreak? Correct me if you see it differently.

We were living lives in which whole societies were

  • putting too much importance on outward advancement to the point of destroying the very life-force that we need to advance us as world-citizens
  • giving confusing and objectifying messages about what our bodies were supposed to look like.
  • making us feel so ashamed of what our bodies had become that we started to disassociate with our own bodies
  • putting too much value on the shiny photos posted on social media, while providing almost no outlets for voicing vulnerabilities
  • making us snare at one another at times, made us numb to real feelings
  • glamorizing the ready availability of the easy-button, introducing us to gadgets and mind-altering drugs that offered instant gratification, and the illusions of calm
  • preaching that boys don’t cry, boys don’t feel; girls conform, girls obey
  • encouraging the open-at-all-hours mindset; doing more at the expense of sleep

Us, modern people with smartphones, private jets, and our important, busy lives…

Who of us is interested in tanning salons and hot yoga right now? Who of us is feeling impinged upon for having to miss out on monetary gains?

Ours was a world that complained too much, stockpiled too much, stepped over those less fortunate, and lived too fast. What a future-less, made-up world we clung on to.

And then came a tiny invisible thing that spread speedily across the globe before we could even analyze it well to know what hit us. It upended our world as we know it.

What We Can Do

  • We need to put a lid on the idea that this is happening TO US and switch to one that tells us that this is happening FOR US
  • We can stock up on new perspectives by transmitting a truer story of a world where we think of others as inhabitants of this world with equal rights as us
  • We can reboot our collective spirits, cloaked in the understanding that we’re connected by the same story of love for the earth and for each other.
  • We can counter the speed of the virus by doing what we can to contain it. Right now.
  • We can spread a message of hope for tomorrow because we know that we are sacrificing things today for the sake of all our tomorrows
  • We need to finally understand why our inner peace is more important than our worldly gains

We can tell the natural cycle hasn’t been derailed. Spring’s here. Just in time. To remind us to wake up to our new life force.

Appreciate the natural gifts we have already and make stronger vows to protect them for the sake of each other. When we do this, we change the frequency of our planet.

Remember to not point fingers at any one people. Rest assured that what’s happening is happening for us — it’s an opportunity to which we’ve been called to participate.

Birth is Messy and Painful

Always remember that something needs to come undone for something grander to be born. Allow this rebirth to happen through us. Let’s soldier through for each other and as we create a better world than the one we had let’s be assured that our efforts will reap rewards. Why? Because this is the opportunity we’ve been waiting for. Forever.

I feel like calling young Greta Thunberg to tell her that we’ve come to our senses. That we’re ready to fight the worthy cause she’s been advocating to so bravely on our behalf. And I wish to thank her for showing us how to respect and love our planet.

We’ve evolved, don’t you agree? Therefore, the life that we knew doesn’t suit us anymore. We have risen. We’re enlightened phoenixes with souls. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

And God Saw That It Was Good. — Genesis
