Can’t Find your Motivation
Am I right?
Motivation seems to be a sneaky little devil, huh? I get it. You organize, keep a to-do list, and constantly update your planner, but low and behold, procrastination comes over for a visit. Let’s be honest, procrastination moved in a few years ago and stays in the guest room.
Am I right?
You got it all wrong. It’s not so bad. So, who cares if procrastination ate all the eggs yesterday morning. Today is a new day. Put down that pencil, stop talking to yourself so much, and just…do nothing.
That’s right. You should do absolutely nothing right now.
Why?
Because your head is too full of must-haves and gotta-gets, and you’re beating yourself up too much lately. The mental bruises prove this to be true. Yeah, I know you want to get things done, and yeah, I know you only have one life. That’s true for all of us.
Just enjoy life
And that’s the point. When you’re chasing motivation all the time, you won't notice that life is trying to spend time with you. Life wants you to do nothing sometimes. And, if you do nothing for a moment, you can clear your mind, making it much easier to remember what you need to do later.
Maybe later today
Yes, today. Not tomorrow or the next day. Those come next, you see. Have you ever heard of, “Tomorrow will take care of itself”? It will. I promise you. Tomorrow is a big boy, and he has priorities of his own.
But today, this is where you sit, with life. Tell procrastination she can join too. Yep! Procrastination is welcome because sometimes you need her.
I bet that sounds counterproductive, doesn’t it?
It’s not really. Procrastination sometimes gives you more time to perfect your craft and hone your skills. Rushed jobs are messy and incomplete. Your elementary teacher reminded you of this when you hurried through your homework in order to watch television.
Watch television first. I said it; I did. Let procrastination have its way, but only sometimes.
Now, I’m going to be serious
Well, I’ve been serious all along, but it just didn’t sound like it. Just because procrastination lives in your house, and life wants more quality time, this doesn’t mean that you should neglect responsibilities.
Nope!
Invite responsibilities to sit with you for a moment each day and jot down a few important things. Your responsibilities are loyal friends, and they wish for you to succeed. When you succeed, they succeed. It’s a win/win situation. They usually aren’t that pushy until you’re late.
So, in a nutshell
Play around with that to-do list, but be forgiving, highly forgiving. If you don’t do everything you set out to do for the day, so what? Just transfer it over to the next day, or week, whichever way you write your to-do list. As far as planners go, this works for some and not for others. If you hate em, then chunk em.
I don’t care. You shouldn’t either.
Did you find motivation yet? Well, if you sit real still and enjoy a bowl of popcorn, watch a movie, etc., he’ll come around. And if you have a tough time finding motivation, don’t worry. Sometimes, he’ll throw a monkey wrench in life’s bicycle tire and then you’ll get up and do something.
Am I right?
